Def looks like infection pics form the infections thread. Don't fret too strongly though...like others have said, taste it, if it tatses ok, rack it down to just below that surface trying not to disturb it and you should be fine. It most likely happenned when you took that gravity reading...

I think more than a 8-9degC sudden change in temp shocks the yeast...not really sure what outcomes that can cause. I would recommend you just wait too....sounds like it's fermenting anyways if the gravity is dropping.

well yeah, my advice was based on not knowing you grew up with a sparkie dad...knowing that, my words would simply have been, "be careful"....there's no second chance with 240V, it's a silent killer at worst, or at the very least could cost you a fridge if you stuff it up. :ph34r:

From the looks of it, I agree....BUT....FFS!...no one should be giving 240V electrical wiring advise based on a photo!....That's just crazy!...The risk involved just isn't worth it. If anyone close by reckons they know what they're doing, offer to go over and do it. Otherwise yob, get a fridge...

if you steeped in plain water, that was near boiling and mixed it in with a 'bitter' kit..... you'll prolly end up with a very bitter beer. Otherwise, no problem. You're far better off boiling the hops in a malty mix....eg boil up 100gms DME in 1ltr of water and then boil your hops in that for...

I've done glad wrap, but I love my air-lock....gloop, gloop, gloop....it's like a sound from the womb. :rolleyes: OG 1.060 sounds high for your kit.....you may have been caught out as I was with my first couple of brews......if you're using a 'sediment reducer' on the inside of your fermenter...

Yes, Welcome aboard. With regards to the air-lock, depending what type you have, it will probably also spit some of whatever fluid you have in it into your wort also,...I'd consider this more of a concern than the air. Ensure this is pre-boiled water, some people even use 'no-rinse' sanitising...
