Just clean it up and it should be fine. wash it with some caustic soda solution (wear gloves) or ammonia, this should remove some copper salts that may be present and turn the solution a cool blue color, then rinse thoroughly with some distilled water and dry. Aaron

Google son of a fermenter chiller, should be srecs and some videos on there about making one etc. Also you could just find yourself an old broken fridge and stick in some bottles of frozen water in there. Aaron

welcome to the forum davecambo, sounds like you did everything right, did you aerate the unfermented beer before adding the yeast (adding water from a height usualy does this). Also what temp is it at now ? Aaron

+1 butters, any gas in the beer will cause bubbles to form on the hydrometer and make it float a bit higher than it normaly would, if you find the beer is as flat as you can get it but you get bubbles on the hydrometer you may need to heat it up a little then let it cool, this will force the CO2...

nice way of sorting that out mate, with SSR's the tend to get "stuck" with a rapid increase in power (surges and alike) so you best get the 25A one rather than anything lower even though you only really need about 17A

If it smells and tastes ok then chances are it's fine most likely that brown stuff is the remenents of the krausen and what not, leave it be and when it comes time to keg or bottle talste it again any rotten egg or buttery tastes are a sign of infection. Good luck Aaron
