Calculated Og And Actual Og Variance

I used the spreadsheet to make a strong dark amber type ale. Spreadsheet said i should have 1056, however after 3 days i tested and its 1090. Is it possible that lots of stuff sunk to bottom and I am getting the denser stuff through the tap in my sample, or is it possible something has gone...

Mornington Pale Ale..anybody Tried Brewing This?

Has anyone got a reasonable extract version of this beer? I realise an accurate extract clone will be pretty hard, but i reckon not getting it quite right will still produce something great! I am new to brewing, but i was thinking something like Morgans Unhopped Amber Extra Pale Crystal to...

    Pale Ale Brew

I am new to brewing, but did make a cracker accidentally (i am sure i have the wrong style or something, but it tasted GREAT, and shared with a lot of mega drinkers who loved it too). Its a nice passionfruit aroma, with a nice med bitterness and slight citrus flavour...might help, might not :)...

    So, What Now?

I am new at this too (brew #7), but extract isn't that much harder than Kit. Just have a go with a simple one... My tip is to read through this forum and find a method and recipe to make an extract brew that makes sense to you, ask a few questions, drag up the old thread and have a crack :) I...

    Tastes Crap...should I Bottle?

Dont worry, my mates wouldn't put up with too many crap ones. I have a few relos who would stay all night and drink my good beer and single malts. I have no issues trying to keep them off my good stuff. Plus i am not really on a campaign to convince anyone of anything :)

    Tastes Crap...should I Bottle?

I snuck one today to see how it had gone, looks great, smels fantastic, has a fair amount of froth already, tastes kinda strange, add some lemon and its drinkable... its drinkable, but its strange, i will save it for visitors i dont want to encourage. :)

    Australian Pale Ale

Well. I am not sure what I was expecting, but this beer has turned out sensational and everyone i give it to reckons i bought it and peeled the labels off. I am giving Neils Centarillo ago next and then i will have another go at this one... Using the carb drops it takes 2.5 weeks for bubbles...

    Tastes Crap...should I Bottle?

I try bulk priming and used the calculator for an american pale 21 litre and used 110g of white sugar in a cup or 2 of hot water, dissolved and racked onto it in the bottling bucket...is this going to be a failure from too little sugar? I am about to try and bulk prime and bottle a wheat beer...

    Tastes Crap...should I Bottle?

I dont think its infected. No temp control, however the temp is quite stable at 18, would have risen to 20 at the very most. I wouldn't say it tastes nasty, just has a strong/odd/malty flavour that isnt appealing. If some one can get smell and taste to work over the internet this would be a lot...

    Tastes Crap...should I Bottle?

yeah i do like wheat beer normally...i am wondering how often you try it before bottling and it tastes crap and then you bottle and it changes to good...

    Tastes Crap...should I Bottle?

I tried to make a wheat beer, i use the spreadsheet and followed a recipe, mostly. Its finished fermenting, 1046->1010, tastes crappy out of the fermenter, has a strong strange malty flavour. It was my 4th brew and i am wondering...do people who find something tastes like crap in the fermenter...

    Racking

Sorry to drag up and old thread...but is the above process likely to remove any of the yeast needed to carb in the bottle? Should the fining/racking/chilling to remove as much 'stuff' as possible be reserved for keggers so there is enough yeast to carb the bottles? Or does it make no difference...

    Reviving Undercarbed Beer

Did you do anything Phil? My first batch has inconsistant carbonation. Will be 3 weeks this sunday, 1 carb drop, fill each stubbie to with 50mm of the top, stored in boxes out of sunlight at around 16o. Have tried 2 days in the fridge before opening. Some give off bubbles when poured but some...

    Brew Day Stuff Ups

On my first brew i didint understand the instructions and only boiled with the dex and added the tin to the cold fermenter and stirred it until totally dissolved. That is my furst beer and to be honest it turned out pretty good...by my total noob standards...i can drink it and friends drink and...

    Australian Pale Ale

well this thread ended up being a bit of a mix of lots of stuff, but i ahve learned a lot. I have the coppers yeast fermenting, i will try and rinse it and step it up this week and maybe use it next weekend. If not it was still good learning and i got to drink 3 coopers long necks. I learnt...
