    Carbonating ale using spunding valve

Sorry for missing this, hadn't turned on the notification. Leaving open I mean just pulling up the Pressure relief valve and then twisting it 90 degrees so it stays open during the early ferment, or you could remove the PRV and put an airlock in if you wanted. As noted if krausen rises too high...

@MHB thanks Whirlfloc it is then and leave as much trub behind as possible.

    Significant trub losses BIAB

@Westheimer Thanks I'll make sure I forget next time that I make a wheat beer.

    Burnt Rubber Taste

Thanks @MHB i'll get it onto secondary and the oak added and see how it goes over the next few months. Was thinking a test around easter. But will bear the " recommended" Brett tips for the next one.

    Burnt Rubber Taste

@MHB re your never leave the beer on yeast cake for more than 14 days, I'm doing a 100% Brett saison and was told it would take 3 months in primary before transfer to oaked secondary for a further 6 months. Does Brett follow your rules ?

    Burnt Rubber Taste

Rekorderlig cider is horribly sweet and is available with fruit flavours, worth a try for a snakebite!

or add some sod met to your tap water.

    Burnt Rubber Taste

I'd say that 27 is very hot for a lager ferment, unless you were using opshaug under pressure and then it might be a bit cool! Lager is the most difficult " beer " to make well, but really easy to make.

STC 1000 Temp controller - Wiring Issue??

I used to use STC 1000 and disable the fridge thermostat. Then just use the stc 1000 to control the cold crash, set it for whatever temp you want but as cool as possible and do something to mitigate against suckback if you aren't pressure fermenting. I just stick the temp probe on the side of...

    Help- Stuck Rice Lager

@ASYLUM_SPIRIT Agree with the above , some dry enzyme is your only chance to get the gravity down. Release the pressure slowly on the fermenter before tipping the enzyme in. Mangrove Jacks is called Dry Enzyme, one packet should be fine. Re your water woes what is the starting water? Can you...

    GUTEN

@Jayvan90 If you can find out the details of the cutout I'll look at the ones that I bought as spares when I burnt out the one in my water boiler. I'll check the rating of the ones I've got in a couple of hours. I ordered mine from aliexpress as I struggled to find one in Jaycar over here or...

    GUTEN

@Jayvan90 I've just got my Smartpid, arrived yesterday. What instructions did you follow to wire it in? Did you find any specific to the guten? Did you move the temp sensor? Any tips for setting it up / install on the guten 70? Thanks

It’s my first cold crash, I have some questions

@Chaos Brews Firstly many ways to skin a cat. But you want to cold crash. You should be concerned about suck back, drive without a seatbelt be scared. I tend to dry hop cooler around 14 celsius for my IPA, but many warmer and some do it at colder temps. The hops are in anyway so that's a done...

How much gas left in tank?

Filling tanks relies on a really good pressure differential and for big tanks they use a compressor to help force the CO2 in. Filling a sodastream bottle from another CO2 tank works best the bigger and higher the pressure is in the donor tank. You can do 6 to 2.6 it but you won't get as good...

How much gas left in tank?

Just back from a pub / brewery lunch. @mynameisrodney is correct I meant the Sodastream bottles, hadn't crossed my mind that the bulbs were called sodastream. In UK I remember them being called sparkler bulbs or CO2 bulbs. It's daylight robbery using the sparkler bulbs or swaps of Sodastream...

How much gas left in tank?

Normally the CO2 is liquid in the tank so sometimes you can hear it slosh around. I weigh my empty cylinder with reg and tube on when empty and also weigh it after a fill. Useful guide to CO2 usage. I find that when the regulator pressure on the regulator gauge that is in KPa starts to drop...

    Significant trub losses BIAB

Thanks I thought the haze in a wheat beer basically due to the proteins in suspension and the yeast poorly flocculating provides the flavour and adds to the haze. A kristalweizen is clear but still tastes like a wheat beer. Really not sure whether leaving the whirlfloc out was correct. I did...

    Significant trub losses BIAB

Just chipping a sub question, should I be adding whirfloc or similar to the kettle for inherently cloudy beers such as a wheat beer or a hazy ipa? I previously haven't but do add to all my other beers.

    Old fridge into a kegerator

Make sure the line is long enough and don't expect one of those flow control ball locks to do the trick they are rap with a c.

    Old fridge into a kegerator

Could you fit a party tap on the second keg and then just have it trapped in the fridge seal when you want to use it?
