    Tempmate Probe Location

I'm guessing this is some time into the ferment once it's all had a chance to equalise. If you place the wort in the fridge above your intended fermentation temp you'd have to expect the probe on the outside to initially read lower as the cold air chills the wort from the outside toward the...

    Fully Automated Brewing System Design

I could kill for one of these http://www.speidels-braumeister.de/shop_co...The-Braumeister - they even have a 200L version too! I'd add a HLT and sparge the grain once lifted from the vessel I think. Neat package all up though.

Whats On Tap At The Platform Bar - Brissy

My arm might be twistable ... I have to share a bottle of my Wit with a lady here at work first but if the rest of the fridge is full of the usual Carlton Mid then it won't be hard to tear myself away around half four.

    Brewday Rituals

I reckon if you don't consume beer while making beer then the imbalance will end up flooding the world with beer. Usually try to hold off on the first one until the boil is underway, but not always ;) I also reckon it's not a proper brewday until I have burnt myself at least once, and left a...

    Ideal Conditioning Temperature

I forwarded the same question to Jamil Z for his take on Dr. Bamforth's comments and here's his $0.02. I have assumed his comments mean the oxidation processes accelerate at higher temp, not the settling of particulate which I always understood was faster at low temp.

    Ideal Conditioning Temperature

Others think this too: again on another Brew Strong show on laagering, John Palmer makes the point several times that (paraphrased) "laagering at near-freezing temps has nothing to do with yeast and everything to do with clarifying beer by dropping out suspended matter". If conditioning is not...

    Ideal Conditioning Temperature

Up until now, I have thought bottled beers that I have intended to cellar for some years (mostly higher alcohol - RIS, BW, etc.) need to be kept at somewhere near fermentation temps (say 18*C) so that the yeast can continue working and evolve the beer over it's life. So, I have kept them in a...

Are You A Homebrewer Or A Craftbrewer?

:icon_offtopic: Reminds me of the Hash House Harriers: A running club with a drinking problem. A drinking club with a running problem. A club with no F^$$##*ing problems!!! On On!

Are You A Homebrewer Or A Craftbrewer?

My $0.02 is that I have found that most people's reaction to "home brew" (even from commercial craft brew drinkers) is that horrified look as they recall their uncle's paint-thinner batches of the 70's. I also find it too long winded to go the "... yes but not supermarket tins, I start with...

    Flushing Kegs With Co2

Curious how best to flush a keg with CO2 prior to filling? Seeing that (to my eye anyway) CO2 and air are both invisible how do you know that you've fully flushed it? One theory I have heard is that since CO2 is heavier than air then if you fill from the bottom it'll sit low and push the air...

    Tight Arse Herms Setup

Brilliant! Though I might set it up to gravity feed into the jug as a grant, then pump out of there to the top of the grain bed so as to not put the grainbed under pump pressure and possibly compress it. Just keep enough (plenty, even) sweet liquor over the jug element and pump out at the same...

    Tight Arse Herms Setup

How about using my Mashmaster plate chiller? Have it sit (nearly) fully submerged (including water inside in the 'chill water' channel) and pump wort around the normal wort side? Risk of a slight leak around fittings but it's only water in the kettle and this is all pre-boil. L.
