    Going Nitrogen

Just stumbled over this thread and I'm changing my plans - have been stuffing around with a beer engine, and it's just too hard to get right, so this seems perfect. So full list of parts required from scratch is; Drilled fridge $100 Mix gas bottle $170 pa Gas & beer lines...

First Pimped Kit: (Inspired by) James Squire Hop Thief

I was using the Big W stock pot for extract & 6 months ago decided to buy an urn, and that's been my best brewing purchase so far. Vastly improves beer, less faff and you can just leave it in the garage while heating, mashing and boiling, so it actually saves me time even though the brew day...

That's cheap - we give it the kid instead of honey/sugar cos it's not as high GI. Can you use that for priming? Maybe better than sugar...

    Fixer-upper brew - what can I do?

Update - very late update, but still.... The beer was thin and watery, as it was only a session UK beer anyway. Rather than tipping it though, I boiled a kg of DME in two litres of water with some spec grains, and a few hops. I fermented that with a better yeast, and chucked it in the main...

    No-chill and late hopped starter

I've been happy with my nochill brews, mistakes aside, apart from the well documented lack of late hop flavour. I was thinking of doing the following to get around the problem, but it seems so easy that someone must have tried it before, and maybe some down side I've no seen exists. My idea is...

    Fixer-upper brew - what can I do?

My last (3rd AG) has ahd a few problems - maybe I got cocky after the first was so good! I used a 2 week old top crop of yeast 1469, which didn't take off like previously. I added about 100ml to about 750ml starter and chucked it in, but maybe that was not enough. Fermentation was lazy, with...

    North Gold Coast water

I'm planning on my first AG BIAB this weekend. I'll only be doing British ales for now. I've not been able to get a water report and have also been told by Craftbrewer that my water could come from one of 4 or 5 different places on any particular day. I filter all water through carbon, and I...

    Ghetto Beer Engine

I used a Trojan brand one in my first try and it was hopeless. Leaked badly in three places. I got a valterra rocket pump now which is much better. One slight seapy leak at the handle after about 4 batches through it.

    Sea Water

We used to keep marine fish in an aquarium. We had a device called a protein skimmer, needed because marine fish eat and **** a lot. It fills up with brown foam up to about a litre a day as I recall. Also why you should never get in a jacuzzi that has foam on top - the foam is "animal"...

    Low carbonation lager style

Thanks guys. Kellerbier sounds very interesting in particular - I'm sure I've had it before, but I tend not to remember beer names and types. Can't imaging why :chug: Never knew that about XXXX. I'll do the brewery tour and check it out some time. I honestly think over carbonation is the...
