    Camco element coating fail

But im not buying their enclosure. I am only purchasing an element. Which leaves me with a pigtail that has to be coiled up with a connector inside the existing BrewHardware element enclosure.

    Camco element coating fail

Ah, my fault. Was on the phone and thought you meant this one: http://www.5stardistilling.net/3600w-heating-element/ which im a bit squiffy about with the convolutions and that ?brass? base. Also not so keen on the stick elements due to the pigtails and lack of ground. Pigtails means more...

    Camco element coating fail

Yeah, so i have seen more recently. Was sold to me as an SS element. :S The thing that scares me about the 5star is the cleaning. Having a double overlapping element makes for more difficult cleaning options.

    Camco element coating fail

They currently only list the 5500w and 2000w units: https://www.brewhardware.com/category_s/1902.htm Considering grabbing a KegKing one to tide me over until a replacement element arrives from the US...

    Camco element coating fail

The element on all of them is supposed to be stainless. But the base differs from model to model. In this case the 'stainless' is just a thin coating on a copper/brass element.

    Camco element coating fail

Yeah, the Fauxfather is setup for a 32mm weldless element. But more annoyed that something sold as "Stainless Steel 304 element" really is just a tiny coating ontop of copper or brass.

    Camco element coating fail

Long story short, decided to replace the 3000w eBay element that was only intended as a stopgap, with one of the Camco elements i had originally purchased for the Fauxfather but took their sweet time in postage. Cleaned the system again with a 12hr soak in Starsan, and after the drain it looks...

How do you store it to limit evaporation. Im currently using a narrow glass, but often forget to refill the buffer and have killed two meters through evaporation.

Nah, they arent second hand. Brand new from a place on Sydney Rd. I bought one for my first BIAB setup, and it worked fine.

Cool, let me know. The taper on the current one is getting annoying for big hop loads with the squarer pot.

    Heating elements - voltage control

I use one of these for voltage control: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VolTage-Resistance-Regulator-Solid-State-Relay-SSR-40A-24-380V-AC-w-Heat-SInk-SY-/252308117274?hash=item3abebc571a:g:sn8AAOSwZQxW2K6u The increased headroom with 40A helps.

    5.7 litre kegs

Yeah, its the 'potential' to take MFL fittings that worries me. Could be something basketcase like 3/8 flare which theoretically you could convert if you could find something to convert it with.
