    Sterilizing

Have I read this wrong. Your saying you wouldn't use starsan as a sanitizer ?

    Keg Boiler

I've replaced my boiler so the old one can go. It's a CUB keg with the top cut out. It has a lid that fits the hole in the top and a 32mm hole for a KK element. It has 2 other 22 mm holes for ball vale and thermometer etc. $40 . Carindale Brisbane.

    Sterilizing

No idea but I know it breaks down to water and oxygen so ends up being harmless. I've been circulating it hot today through my boiler, pump and plate chiller. Lots of brown water and hop residue are coming out of the gear.

    Sterilizing

Whats wrong with starsan? I mix 1 fl ounce with 20L of RO or Distilled water in a cube and it keeps for ages. Mix that with tap water and it goes cloudy and becomes useless pretty quick. I keep some in a spray bottle to sterilise flasks etc when growing yeast. It's a steriliser not a cleaner...

    How To - Gelatine

I got 2 brews going to kegs on Friday. I see craftbrewers has it. Might grab some and give it a go. Pushing beer through the filter not only takes a long time but uses gas too.

    How To - Gelatine

I use Gelatin. CC then filter to a keg and toss genatin in the keg. I make it in the microwave. 3/4cup water. Add teaspoon of granular gelatin. 30 seconds in the micro then temp check and stir. This time of year another 20 seconds gets it to 70C. Toss that into the full keg. Burp it and then...

    first time all grain Brisbane

I design all my beers in Beersmith. It tells me all I need to know. You can still get a Beersmith 2 licence for under $30. Once you get your gear dialled in and come to grips with the software, it it'll be the best $30 you've even spent.

    Storage of Ro water

Your RO filter should remove all nutrients, minerals, chemicals and fungi. Google says you can store it for 2 years before stuff from the container starts leaching into it. I store it in a 60L drum and almost empty it doing double batches. Here's a crap pic of it. There's a float valve where it...

    Bad stir plate - disaster

I made a stir plate out of a plastic box, a computer fan and a voltage regulator. I stick it in the fridge in summer but this time of year it just takes longer to finish. But that's Queensland for ya. Perfect one day, beer the next :) I'm guessing consistantly cold weather is a PITA.

    Cold crashing rate

I have an upright freezer that fits 2 x 30L fermenters. It drops both fermentors to 1C in about 6 hours. I normally give it a day to crash then 2 days @ 1C then filter into a keg. I also add gelatin to the keg. Works for me.

    New Boil Pot for me

I doubt it would have the grunt. That 2000watt element would only boil the keg with the lid on but ajar and it doesn't switch on/off.

    New Boil Pot for me

I've been boiling single batches in a keg for ages and recently found I have the mash volume to do double batches if I concentrate the wort into a pair of 'no chill' 16 litre cubes. ie: Boil 40 liters. Of course the keg takes a lifetime to boil 40L, **** it's almost 20Kg of stainless steel so...

    3 vessel build advice needed

I really don't know but I've seen others using a 4800 and a 2400 to achieve boil then turning one off once boiling. http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/

    3 vessel build advice needed

    You'll need the power circuits to drive those elements. A standard power point can only supply 10 Amps. Watts = Amps x Volts and Watts / Volts = Amps. So 2400watts / 240 volts = 10 Amps. 4800watts / 240 volts = 20 Amps 5500watts / 240 volts = 23 Amps. 6500watts / 240volts = 27 Amps You'd best...

    3 vessel build advice needed

I tried scaling up a recipe in BeerSmith to a 54L batch and with the losses in my system you'd need 79L of water Total, 46L Mash Volume which gives a Pre Boil volume of 64L. I believe you want Pre Boil + 30% for the boiler so 85L or bigger would be the go there.

    Split Cube

Yep, definitely looks like something was growing inside. Not sure why, done a lot of cubes this way and this is the first to burst. Twas only a blonde so no great loss. Replaced it with a iipa today.
