    Diacetyl in Smurto's Belgian experiment

The beer cleared right up given a week or so at 25c- it has turned out a really tasty brew. Kegged and ready for NYE. Thanks.

    Diacetyl in Smurto's Belgian experiment

There are no other off flavours or aromas- in fact, it is tasting like a great beer in the making aside from the overt butterscotch. This makes me think it might be a fermentation by-product and not an infection (fingers crossed). It isn't really oily in the mouthfeel. It has reduced a bit...

    Diacetyl in Smurto's Belgian experiment

I recently brewed an AG Smurto's Golden Ale- I've done several before fermented with US-05 but for this one pitched a litre starter of Wyeast 1762 Belgian Abbey II. Primary Fermentation went as expected at 20c. for 4 days- it went from 1048 down to 1012 in this period. Tasting the wort I...

Dry Hopping Post-fermentation: Will It Do Anything?

I've dry hopped a 12g bag of Cascade hops in 10 hours ago and already there's a noticeable increase in the aroma and the bitterness has mellowed a whole lot. I am thinking of chucking another bag (or even two).

Dry Hopping Post-fermentation: Will It Do Anything?

Thanks for clarifying. But, as I say, my wort is definitely bitter enough already. Does dry hopping increase bitterness further- or just add aroma?

Dry Hopping Post-fermentation: Will It Do Anything?

Hi I made an ESB wort kit Creatures Pale Ale- it had 12g of Cascade finishing hops and, as per the instructions, I steeped it in a cup of boiling water for 10 minutes and pitched it into the wort just before the yeast. I think I've pretty much reached FG now (10.12) having started at 10.48...

Fittings For An Exterior Co2 Bottle In A Keezer Setup

Cheers Barls That looks good providing (a) it can handle the necessary pressure and (B) it is long enough to fit in my collar (which is about 2" thick). I'll email and ask. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Fittings For An Exterior Co2 Bottle In A Keezer Setup

I am considering moving my CO2 bottle outside my keezer, and running the gas line in through the timber collar. Of course, I could simply drill a hole, run my gas hose through and seal the hole up with silicone. Does anyone have any more creative ideas? Are there fittings I could install on...

    Gas And Beer Hose Length

I have read that beer hose in a keggerator setup should be at lest 5ft long to prevent over foaming. Are there any considerations when running gas lines? Can line from the CO2 regulator to the manifold and then from manifold to keg be as short as say a foot or two (ie the minimum necessary, to...

    Thermostat Settings

What have people found the best thermostat settings are to keep temperature relatively constant in a chest freezer being used as a kegerator or to house a fermenter? My unit has function controls such as low/high temp limit, temp hysterisis, cooling delay time etc. Just wondering what people...

    Light Dried Malt In Cider

Hi All Just trying my hand at cider based on juice and Safale US-05. I've noticed some recipes include light dry malt- what will this add (or take away) from the cider? Will it improve mouth feel like it does in beer?
