    Excited for toucan stout brew!

Well i just put down a toucan stout brew, as per a recipe i found around somehwere 1 Coopers Dark Ale 1 Coopers Stout 500g brown sugar 250ml espresso (my own addition) I have to say i think it's the most excited i've been about a new brew! Initial wort taste was nice, fairly bitter. I wonder...

    IPA ideas?

Well, i kinda just went with it here on this one. Followed a recipe on the coopers site for an original IPA style (1kg LDM, 500gm Dex 20ltr ferment) but i did 10g Chinook and 5g Saaz @ 10 minutes, and the same at 0 minutes. The hope is to add a little fruity spicey to an otherwise strong robust...

    Keeping fermenter warm over winter

If you sterilised it appropriately, why couldn't the aquarium heater be inside the fermenter?

    Is this hydrometer reading right?

I usually use an online temperature calculator when i work out the alcohol content, i write temps down with each reading... But yeah i thought tap water should be 1.000 - TBH i never really checked it. Only use the hydrometer really to know when i'm at final gravity.. Handy to know, i might...

    Is this hydrometer reading right?

Okay, so I commented over at the coopers forum on a yeast reculture thread, and one of the guys suggested the numbers i was getting might not be correct.... So here's a couple of pictures, Plain old tap water.... This one's a Real Ale with 1Kg BE2 & 100g dex on day 5 @ 21deg, IG was 1033...

    Homebrew Tragedy! [with Pics]

I agree they are expensive! To be honest, i've never checked that they're uniform - i kind of thought that was the whole point of using them and paying extra.... In-fact i'll kind of feel ripped off and disappointed in Coopers if this is correct and they aren't a consistent size, basically...

    Homebrew Tragedy! [with Pics]

Yes that sounds like a really good advantage!! Seems like quite a bit of extra work involved though... Had a quick squiz at that calculator - but desired level of C02??? Ummm, i just want bubbles in my beer!!!??? lol :chug: Maybe not quite for me just yet! But i am still interested to know...

    Homebrew Tragedy! [with Pics]

Wait on, so you're saying carb drops aren't a good idea? I only just started using glass, and thought carb drops would be the safe option. I've bottled two 23l batches this week (one drop per stubbie, two per longie). One into Coopers PA stubbies, the other into mostly coopers PA longnecks...

    IPA ideas?

Perhaps a pale ale kit would be a better tin to use for this one? To be honest i don't really know what possessed me to use the IPA, just seems to get a lot of good press.

    IPA ideas?

Well, i guess my logic was; Saaz for spicyness, Galaxy for passionfruityness.... I usually boil about 5L with my LDM, dex and hops - and then add the kit tin for the last few minutes of the boil...

    IPA ideas?

Hey all! So I was going to shoot for a Four Wives type fruity Pils for my next brew... BUT the lager fermentation process seems a bit complicated for where i'm at right now (and i don't have temp control setups etc etc) So, i've been thinking; Coopers Selection IPA 1kg LDM, maybe some extra...

Cheers! Yeah waiting for beer to age is a drag! Especially that new recipe you're dying to see how it came out!

    Pride of Ringwood

I just started using POR in my pursuit of an everyday cupboard stock CPA clone beer... Following recipe's i found on here, i boiled 20g POR for 60 minutes with 100g Dex. Then a Coopers Lager, a further 100g dex and 1kg LDM.... Both are only just getting bottled, but my initial observation is...

    Four Wives Pilsner Recipe

Okay, so i'd love to say i completely know what you're saying... Buuuuut, i don't! I'm pretty sure lager fermentation is longer at colder temps? "d-rest" has me stumped though. Thanks!

    Four Wives Pilsner Recipe

Hey all! Does anybody have any info, recipe's or ideas on how to get something similar to a James Squire Four Wives? The best, or only thing i could come up with, was this http://www.thebrewshop.com.au/james-squire-pilsener-style-recipe-pack.html - ESB Pilsner 1.7kg Beer Concentrate - 1kg...
