    Fresh Ginger

I recently brewed a beer like this for the first time. I used 100% BB Ale, bittered to 10 IBU using Stella, and added 500g of fresh ginger (smashed up in the food processor) to the boil 15 minutes from the end. This was for a post-boil batch size of 30 litres. The result was a little light on...

    23 Jet Mongolian Burner - Yey/neh?

I'm very pleased with my Mongolian burner (23 jet, natural gas). I have no problems with soot as others have reported, and I usually throttle it down a bit (sometimes up to half) during the boil. My kettle is 98 litres, usual pre-boil volume is 83 litres. Perhaps with smaller pots/volumes guys...

    Oldest Beer You've Had?

A couple of years ago I had a Cooper's Stout of which the label was still in fluid ounces. Pre-dates the metric system, so pre-1966? It wasn't bad, either. I've still got one, and winter's coming...

    Carbonating With Cellarmix

Hi 6tri6ple6, welcome to AHB. Cellarmix 55 is used where higher pressure is required to push beer through long runs (like at your work) without over-carbonating the beer. Therefore, if you were to use it at home, you'd need to run around twice the pressure on your regulator to maintain the...

    Not Scared Of Many Things...

I co-exist with a few red backs in my brewery from time-to-time, and didn't think much of them until my 3-year old junior brewer started hanging out with me. She wasn't too concerned, but let me know where they were and stayed away from them. Then a mate moved over from England, and I mentioned...

    Iphone Apps For Brewers

I've been using BeerAlchemy on the Mac for nearly a year, and for 6 months or so on my iPod Touch. I've had no problems with either, and the synchronisation works well. Both applications are regularly updated. Interestingly, the BeerAlchemy Touch has some features that the Mac version doesn't...
