I have actually been thinking of dropping the cocoa and vanilla, I'm sure ill get a little chocolate flavour come through from tha dark malts anyway. I think I will do just that and if I feel it needs those flavours it will give me the perfect excuse to brew it again. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah maintaining mash temp is my biggest concern, I'll be keeping it on the burner just in case it drops a bit.

You make a fair point, but being that it will be a Sunday afternoon brew day I'm pretty sure I'm obligated to have at least one schooner. I don't want to stuff my first all grain so I won't be having too many.

And as far as the no drinking advice goes, isn't it sacrilegious not to have a few home brews whilst home brewing?

    Diving into all grain

This weekend I will be taking my first glorious step into all grain brewing. Got my ingredients yesterday for a delicious Chocolate Oatmeal Porter. I'll be doing a BIAB job as I haven't got a mash tun yet. Any last minute pointers for me? I'll post the recipe later so let me know what you think...

    Mash Tun build

Cool, thanks for the input, I would have liked a smaller one but I couldn't pass up buying a 50L one for $60. Having a look at the drain, it does sit a bit high but will be easy to account for.

    Mash Tun build

Yeah, similar style. I picked up one for a bargain the other day and thought it would be a great mash tun, I know they are great with keeping ice but I was curious weather or not they let off a plastic taste when hot water is used in them

    Mash Tun build

Just wondering if anyone has built a mash tun using those one piece construction polyethylene coolers? I know their insulation properties are second to none but all the builds I've seen use the traditional esky style. Is this because the traditional ones are hard, HD polyethylene and the others...
