On my way up there soon. Had to keg 2 beers for my brother-in-laws christmas show (i feel like I'm doing my bit to support our MFS!). See you soon boys and gals.

Gas Line In Beer Line Out Labelling

I used my brother-in-law's buff polisher with some cut-and-polish paste. Got rid of all the sticky stuff, and cleaned off the dirty marks, then made the stainless nice and shiny. Had to clean with detergent afterwards to get rid of all the wax though, otherwise got a hellava lot of marks on...

2008 Sa Xmas In July Case Swap - Tastings/recipes

Mickoz Rocket Fuel This is very nice. Reminds me of a few of the high alc belgians that I've had before. :icon_cheers: The wife also loved it (which is a bugger, because that means she drank half of it, which may also be a good thing, because I might be able to wake up in the morning without...

2008 Sa Xmas In July Case Swap - Tastings/recipes

I didn't get much of yours, because we shared it together with holty, but I do remember that it was an amazingly tasty brew for a low alc drop. I'm happy to drink it for you anytime you'd like to drop a case around

    Brewing Software

Yes, they're both from the US, but they both have options for metric units, and plenty of guys use each of them. You can download trials of each of them - give them a go and make your own choice. FWIW, I use beersmith - I like the interface better.

Ability to sleep while sitting up. Now THAT's a skill. If it were an olympic event, it'd be GOLD! GOLD! GOLD! for homekegger! :icon_chickcheers: Sorry champ, I'll stop (for now).

    2008 Sa Xmas Case Swap

On the surface, "Ice beer" does sound like a good idea in 40C, but last xmas case swap has taught me (and others!) better! Though I guess it depends on your perspective of what a "good idea" is. If you're a fan of mid-afternoon kips, I'd recommend giving it a go. Wouldn't you agree homekegger?

    1st Decoction Day Results

Dr Gonzo is well known in Adelaide circles for his mastery of decoctions. :chug: And he produces very good beers as such. The above is sound advice. I know I'll be following it when I have my first go at a decoction!

    2008 Sa Xmas Case Swap

Braufrau, from what I remember of the 2007 Xmas case swap, your partial got better feedback than some of the AG beers... I for one would rather drink something that tasted great than choose something because of the method of production. A crap tasting AG beer is still a crap beer...

What's The Most Efficient Liquor To Grist Ratio If Space In The Ma

I've just looked through my logs, and I've rarely done a mashout when batch sparging. However, if fly sparging, I do try to do a mashout (but don't ask me why, I don't have an explanation). trevc: Batch sparge at the same temp you were going to. I try to sparge at 76 deg, but find I need...

What's The Most Efficient Liquor To Grist Ratio If Space In The Ma

Other option is to not do a mash-out, which will allow a greater amount of mash water. Sparge relatively quickly and then begin heating in your kettle straight away if you're worried about denaturing enzymes. Your batch sparge temp should ensure you extract the most amount of extract from the...

Boy Dies From Drinking Homebrew Ouzo

Erm, yep. Guilty, your honour. I vaguely remember one night where I had too much of the stuff, plus some of the folks red wine. Painted the side of the shed and the lounge room floor, and the hangover lasted 2 days. Lesson learned. I still find the smell of ouzo and sambuca churns my stomach!

    Bavarian Lager

It depends if you're making a real lager (i.e. using lager yeast) or not. If using the yeast from the can, it's likely to be an ale yeast, not a lager yeast.

    Melanoidin Malt

I must say that DrSmurto's 100% Pils, 100% Saaz that was in the 2007 SA Christmas Case Swap was a winner. In fact, that's what I'll be brewing this weekend! Jules, if this is your first lager, there's nothing like keeping it simple. You might find you get a surprising amount of 'maltiness'...
