    Avoiding Chill Haze Without Polyclar

Yet, there are plenty of people who have no problem putting cow hoofs/cartlidge in their beer (gelatine). I use isinglass (fish guts) as I didn't get good results with gelatine and find it works quite well in dropping haze as well... Only have to use 1/2 teaspoon per keg...

    Chilli! All Things Chillies.

Ants are usually a sign of scale on the plant - as far as I am aware, the ants farm the scale insect as the scale secretes a sugary substance that the ants feed on.... A quick spray with white oil should get rid of the scale and thus the ants as well...

How Many Times Do You Stir Your Mash

I give it a good stir when I add the grain, and then stir like buggery while raising the temp to mash out and then give it another stir before pulling the bag... Thinking of dropping the mash out step though as I haven't really noticed any great improvement in efficiency as a result of doing it...

Boiling Hops In Hop Bags Or Just Chuck Them In?

I generally use a hopsock, but on the weekend decided to let the hops run free... Word of warning, I would recommend against just chucking in whole flowers unless you have a hopscreen or similar - I ended up with a flower stuck in the tap of my urn and had to syphon the contents out...

    How Long And Whats Best?

The biggest problem with cracked malt is staling - I have kept cracked malt for up to around a month with no problem, but it was in vacuum sealed bags, so minimal oxygen and moisture exposure.

Water - Is It Ok To Use Hot Water Tap?

I think you will find that a lot of the crap at the bottom of Hot Water System's is also sediment that is picked up from the local water supply - remember, there are many meters of copper pipe before your hot water system, and god knows what kind of pipe in the water grid, all of which are...

    Tap Cleaning After Hydrometer Readings

Yeah, I leave mine dirty as well... just give it a spray with Starsan and stick the corner of a tea towel up the spout to wipe it at kegging time.

Put A Caption To The Picture

Chappo: Geeze Sully, this beer is too gassy... in fact... speaking of gassy, Sully, Pull my finger! Sully: Lalalalalalalala, i'm not listening, lalalalalala Chappo: Stuff you then Sully, i'm saving this one for later enjoyment, can you pass me that hose? - you may want to glove up first... Now...

    Brew Heaters

I just use a good old fashioned hot water bottle strapped to the side of the fermenter with some elastic. Fermenting fridge stops it from getting too hot so it just sits at around 18-20c overnight. Just have to refill the hot water bottle first thing in the morning and before going to bed at...

    When Is Draught Not Draught?

Probably the same yeast they use in Carlton :icon_chickcheers: At least Tooheys eventually realised the error of their ways and renamed Tooheys Draught to Tooheys New not that there was anything new about it...

What Is In The Ultimate Home Bar/rumpus Room?

When I eventually have room (will probably have to move a few times before it happens), mine will have a bar (with 4 taps), full size snooker table (with scoreboard), TV and HiFi, with PC attached (with a bunch of MP3's), cumfy lounge/sofabed/fouton, bulls head above the bar, and possibly a used...

    My First Starter

I would pitch the smack pack and up the temp of the brew to around 20-22c to give it a better chance of taking off... drop the temp back down to 18-20c once the krausen has formed... No time for a starter now...

What Happens When Pollux Gets Bored?

Well come on... share the love! I have the same urn and wouldn't mind putting a pickup on it as well... would be keen to know what bits I would need to do it and if I can get them a Bunnings, as my plumbing skills extend about as far as changing washers :P

Ahhh, The Dark Side Is Sooo Near..

Did my first BIAB today and all went well... Was 2.5 litres short after I pulled the bag out, but was a few points higher in SG than Beersmith predicted, so topped up with a couple of litres of water... Ended up hitting my OG spot on to the cube which is good and have adjusted my equipment...
