    Toucan Farmland Draught

Sorry about not getting back to you earlier mate..... Glad to see you survived the overboarding. I have my fermenters in those high-sided plastic storage boxes and let them go. Any mess is contained but dutifully cleaned as things happen. With your hops, rather than introducing hops to a cool...

    Toucan Farmland Draught

Make sure you use both sachets of yeast. IMO dry hopping isn't enough, boilup some (if not all) your wort and add hops for a boiling - min 20mins. A bit of dex should be used as a kicker - abt 100 - 200gms. Done Homebrand and turns out good. Used POR and Cluster, both work well.

    Hops In K And K

Here's another link. http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/inde...c=14793&hl= I've started on the hopping pathway myself. I use Coopers Lager (Original) as my base kit and boil the wort for 45 mins. Last kit hopping skeds were: "Cascade Lager" ** Coopers Lager Kit 1kg Dextrose Wort Boiled...

2 Tins Of Coopers Ingredients, Nothing More.

G'day Luka, I don't bulk prime but the 220gms for 20ltrs seems a bit much to me. Hopefully someone will advise on a more appropriate measure. I'm sure I've read somewhere here that 160 - 170 gms per 23 litres was the norm. Please don't take this as gospel but more as a warning to check further.

    Talk About Lazy

I just received this from a friend. I think it is well worth a look. I.B.

2 Tins Of Coopers Ingredients, Nothing More.

With an inexperienced pallete (about 6 toucan brews), I think the IBU increased by 1.5 rather than total or double. Saying this I believe the final IBU of your brew would be about 33 (0.75*IBU1 + 0.75*IBU2). I've done a few toucan Lagers and Bitters and the IBU doesn't seem to double. Getting...

Great link Tony!! I am supposed to be bottling today, now half the day has gone and I've been reading that link. Good info. Now off to bottle........ lol

2 Tins Of Coopers Ingredients, Nothing More.

Have done both, the Coopers Lager is very good. The Draught IMHO turns out a bit sweet. Doing the standard versions of both I found the Lager a bit lame but that was fixed by "toucanning" and the draught (IMHO) was always sweet (too sweet for me anyway). Hops addition though fixes both draught...

    March Pump Problems

I gather you have a centrifugal pump, which are directly affect by head etc. What series pump is it? Have you checked the performance curves for you particular pump? Maybe these guys can help: http://www.marchpump.com/

    Priming Bottles

Gav, I'm with you. Give 'em all a whirl and see which you prefer. I've never tasted any difference between priming methods (dex, sugar, dme, carb drops), but due to absolute laziness I now use the carb drops, and sugar if I have none, because I'm too lazy to go down the street for...

    Those Darn Hops

Thank you Tony. You've caught me. I'm so lazy it takes me 2 weeks to change my mind. I'm working towards racking, but unfortunately lack of space is a killer. As it is it took me ages to negotiate with SWMBO for freezer space for 4 bags of hops. When my brewing shed aka garage/workshop...

    First Two Can Advice

If I had the technology, 16deg until it got going would've been my pick, then drop the temp 1deg/day. Ditto FazerPete as well.

    Those Darn Hops

I like a bit of bite in my beer, but I don't want to over hop. Thanks for the flavour info, I didn't have a clue what thay taste like, just a punt, and looks like it paid off. Hopefully SWMBO won't like it. Poor old Ned gunna have a heart attack when I go in there next week   I...

    Those Darn Hops

Thank you Sir. I can't take any credit for the hops sched, it all you blokes. The reason I opted for the 45min addition was to give me time to settle down and settle the wort to a good rolling boil before adding the hops. Read a lot about boilover etc and having only teabag...

    Those Darn Hops

Thank you Sir. I'm still learning, but with the info gleaned from this site hopefully my failures will be reduced. I'll be heading to the LHBS next week (long drive) and discuss/pickup some cans of unhopped extract. At this time I really don't know what extracts I'll get, but Ned & I...

2 Tins Of Coopers Ingredients, Nothing More.

Coopers Toucan Stout - In the fermenter now. Just needs 1 additive - 300gms Corn Syrup. Hopefully I'll be able to serve it as a dessert. Really good beer can be produced from the cheapies if a little effort is applied. I boil a kit to 7 litres for 45 - 60 mins cool and into the...

    Those Darn Hops

Either of those kits you've mention would be ok but defeating the purpose of purchasing them. I was basically referring to the rough-nut varieties like Coopers Lager, Bitter, Real Ale, or the homebrand kits. And yes, I am considering getting some unhopped LME from LHBS and having a go from...

    Those Darn Hops

Thanks all for your replies, they have been extremely informative. Not only for myself but also for others who were possibly looking for a hidden agenda..... So I gather that if boiling a couple of cheap kits for a brew, if it is boiled for say 45 mins, you wouldn't change the original IBU...
