Thanks all.
I'm pretty sure the coopers carbonation drops equate to about 200g for a 23 litre batch. I don't use them myself but it shows that the max is more than this. They've had 4 days in the bottle now so if I recap tonight then that should still give decent carbonation without risk of...
Yeah it's a little over that by my calcs (4.1 including max temp of brew). I only bottled yesterday so I could grab a few more PET's and dump the glass bottled beer in there. Or just keep them cold when they've reached an acceptable level of carbonation.
I guess I'm just trying to figure out...
So last night I bottled 23 litres worth of a ginger beer and bulk primed with 300g of caster sugar to give it plenty of carbonation. I thought I had enough PET bottles but I ran out so had to use a few coopers stubbies.
Is that level of priming sugar likely to cause issues? As they are...
I'm keen to try something along these lines with the Morgans kit. I've got a stout in my ferment fridge at the moment, but I'm keen to get this on the go for an event in a few weeks time. Do you think it's important to control temperature as tightly as you would with beer? I'll be using kit...
I'm new to this myself but from bitter experience I would suggest chucking away the old tins. Made my first brew with unused old tins and ended up pouring it down the drain. Although at first I assumed I'd done something wrong, I followed the same process second time around and the beer was...
Just did my first brew with some out-of-date ingredients.
Undrinkable. I haven't yet worked up the courage to pour it all away and get the bottles back, too emotional.
(at least I think it was undrinkable because of the ingredients. A bad workman blames his tools and all that...)
Yeah I'm rapidly getting to that point too I think. Santa also gave me an Irish stout kit with the generic yeast but I think I might sack that off and research something better. From what I can gather it's an easy way to improve your brew drastically.
In defence of the shop owner, the kit included an ale yeast, not a lager yeast, so the problem lies with the kit being described as an Australian Lager kit. As it contains ale yeast it should probably be called an Australian Ale Made To Taste Like Lager kit. Not quite as snappy...
I believe...
Hi all,
So this is my second brew and a kit with the above LME and a dextrose/maltodextrin mix (can't remember the exact mix. Doh!). Anyway I couldn't get a decent original gravity reading because I think I didn't mix it well enough in the fermenter. Kept coming out at 1.065 (did 3 readings...
You make a good point actually. My shins could cop a hammering. And I do have a baby bath that has been gathering dust for a while. Is it ethical to use baby equipment for brewing?
Thanks for your responses everyone.
The garage is under the house and very dirty, with cobwebs etc. and the potential bottling bench is a workbench with plenty of sawdust etc all over. Spraying starsan on that wouldn't make much sense to be honest, hence why I want to do it in the kitchen...
Hi all,
Total beginner here. This morning I stuck a Mangrove Jack kit (Pale Ale) into the fermenter as per the instructions. This was then put in the fridge in the garage, which is set to 21 degrees C. All good so far (barring an OG reading of 1.090. I think I screwed up the reading...
