    1st Brew Advice....

Just remember, no matter how your beer turns out the first few times it does get better, just keep changing your brews and talk with your local home brew shop dude about it and it'll be cool.

    Sealing Lid ?

I found the best way to get a lock is to rinse the lid under hot water, put your airlock into the lid then screw the lid on the fermenter. When you hit the point where it starts to get tight, keep going about 3 cm around and it should be sweet. If you go further then that its a real pain to get...

Fermentation Temps - Coopers Pure Brewers Yeast

A mate and I have been brewing for a little while now, and we've found that some of the kits you buy are just junk and taste bad, yet other brands/types brewed the same taste great. I'd recommend trying a few different brands and types of beers & yeasts and you'll soon be sitting in your chair...

    Keg Gassing & Drinking

Hi Folks, The answer is probably that I didn't burp the keg first, damn instructions never said to do that. Gybrid

    Cider

I've made quite a few brews of the cider that Coles sell (can't remember the name, they only have one anyway i think) & it's okay.. i'm not a huge fan of cider tho... made it for my girlfriend, and she likes it. Important to rack your cider tho, greatly improves clarity... not so important for...

    Brisbane Brew Shops

Quality Home Brew store at slacks creek is what we've been using for the last year, it's got huge range... it's okay... BUT, we've just found another one on the corner of browns plains road and beaudesert road, browns plains, forget the name. Smaller shop, but much better pricing and friendly...

    Keg Gassing & Drinking

Hi Folks, I've searched and i can only find limited articles on this... Recently I purchased a keg system, the instructions the hbs gave me were to chill the beer overnight, then apply 400kpa for about 20 seconds, turn off then rock the keg until the kpa on the dial stops moving.. if it stops...

Bulk Priming - Do You Adjust The Sugar

Hiya, Normal brews would be about 23lts... Grumpys has a nice little table for you to work out how much sugar you need. When you rack into secondary you might loose a litre then you might loose a litre when you bulk prime (avoiding the yeast bed)... so therefore you've got 21-22lts. Is there a...

After Washing Bottles, Do They Need To Dry?

Hi all, I use bottle washing powder (alkaline salts -97.5%).. I wash out the bottles then rinse... Should I wait until they've dried before bottling or is it okay to bottle straight after, with water deposits still in the bottles. Thanks Jase

    Sterilizing

Hmm ok, I thought Sterilizer would remove all germs and funky stuff? Obviously not, well I'll have to change my solution. Anyone use anything else besides the above listed?

    Sterilizing

Hi All, After a couple nasty suprises and I think it was from not washing out the sterilzer properly.. but then i thought it was from fermenting lager at 26 then bottling and conditioning at the same or higher temp. So lately I have been going nuts, but i'm getting a sore back now (gee I sound...

    Racking To Secondary

Does it matter if the secondary fermenter isn't sealing? it has an air leak that levels the airlock

    Racking To Secondary

Hi there, Just about to rack my first beer to secondary and was wondering if you are suppose to put the hop bag (little tea bag thing) into the secondary fermenter or not? It's Super Alpha. Cheers, Jase

    Introduce Yourself.

Hi All, Looks like there are a few Jason's round the place, and I'm another one. I started brewing about 3-4 months ago and have had okay sucess. My brews have been drinkable but not as nice as other home brew's i've tasted. But I recon i've got that fixed now! My main motivation was to save...

    Does Size Count?

I bought a 25l drum/fermenter from bunnings and was wondering if that's okay to use as my other one is a 30l (come in the kit). Most brews are 23l anyway so i figure it's alright, so long as it doesn't go ape and foam comes out of the top? Jase
