Oh Dear, I Hope My Yeast Is Ok!

Simply put, I tasted it, and promptly spat it out into the sink. Tastes like an infection to me, was god-awful. If this ginger beer turns out to be infected as well, then I'm not going to be using the iodophor again.

Oh Dear, I Hope My Yeast Is Ok!

Time for an update about this brew. I bottled it two weeks ago, and it was very cloudy (almost completely opaque). Nothing too strange there. However, two weeks in the bottle has done virtually nothing to clear it up. Isn't that a sign of infection? This is only my second brew using iodophor...

Oh Dear, I Hope My Yeast Is Ok!

Basically, I used one of those Artisanale fresh wort kits from Grain and Grape (#2), with 40g of Goldings hops. Trying to make an IPA of sorts. I figure you're right. After all, it doesn't look too bad. I haven't had an infected batch yet anyway. Sounds like I should just RDWHAHB :) We'll...

Oh Dear, I Hope My Yeast Is Ok!

Holy shit. I just noticed my lid wasn't tightened properly. That's probably why I saw no bubbling at all for three days. I've had a taste, and it smells and tastes kinda weird. I don't know if it's just because of the recipe (never brewed with it before), or because of an infection.

Well, there was a bit of air already in the pack, for some reason. There's a thin krausen now, however I'm not sure whether it's the yeast or an infection. I hope it's not infected, those fresh wort kits aren't cheap!

Oh Dear, I Hope My Yeast Is Ok!

Ah, thanks for that. I've never actually used liquid yeasts before, so it's a learning experience. I do like to do new things with my brew. This is my first one using a fresh wort kit/liquid yeasts, the previous one was my first toucan, one before was my first using yeast cultured from a bottle...

Oh Dear, I Hope My Yeast Is Ok!

Thanks for that. I was worried about bursting the pack, y'see :P I do remember having similar worries about slow-starting K-97 in a previous brew (nearly a year ago, yikes).

Oh Dear, I Hope My Yeast Is Ok!

Hey all, I tried using a liquid yeast for the first time yesterday (Wyeast British Ale II 1335). I tried to break the yeast packet a few times (tried, but I couldn't find it). When it was time to pitch, I opened the pack, and it wasn't broken. I ended up cutting it open and pouring it straight...

Crown Lager Recipe ,you Ask Why?

How do you get the vomit aroma? Can't be a true Crownie without smelling like sick :P

    Coles Farmland Draught Can

The Homebrand ones look similar (similar type of lids and that) to the Morgans kits (at least, the ones at my local Safeway in regional VIC do). My old man used one in a beer and he seemed to like it. I'd be tempted to use one, but mainly as a cheap source of hopped extract, I wouldn't bother...

    Using Two Cans

Hmm, you've got me worried that my toucan will be too bitter. I have a Coopers Draught and a Coopers Dark Ale with 50g of EKG (for aroma, so only a short boil) and some Safale S-04 yeast. Am I going to get something too bitter or not?

    Stockpile

I think at last count we had (all approx): 150 Coopers stout bottles at various stages of conditioning 50 bottles of a lager of mine 50 pilseners 120 or so other lagers (mainly dad's, as are the stout) 20 APAs 6 weizens (which are getting drunk, bit of a poor beer really) 10-12 ales (a promising...

    Worst Brewing Disaster. Ever!

I spose the worst disaster I've had while brewing (nothing compared to some, though), was a boilover of some of my wort. Had my sugars in a pot on the stove going along nicely, went to put the tin in (still a K&K brewer atm), and next thing I know, spillage of sticky malty liquid all over the...
