    Water :)

Excellent advice! Please find attached a "Brewing Water Cheat Sheet" that may clear up some confusion, especially regarding RO water. This document originally started as notes for BJCP exam prep classes I was teaching. (I am a National judge.) It's been refined, edited and peer-reviewed over...

    Braumeister NEXTGEN Build

Anyone know of a US supplier of similar elements? Thanks!

Where Does A Red Ipa "fit" In Bjcp Guidelines?

First, most judges are idiots. Second, I am a BJCP National judge here in the US. ;-) Let's assume that your beer is absolutely perfect, except that it is too dark/red for the style of IPA. With good judging you would have a 49-point beer. One point deduction for color. Appearance is 3 points...

    Single Vessel Brewery

I am not sure it will be quite that easy. Either route will require fine-tuning of the recirc path / sealing method / amount of perforations of the inner tub, flow rate, etc. I second the suggestion that you try/observe a Braumeister in action. If you're planning mostly low-gravity brews, then...

    Single Vessel Brewery

Interesting. What's the recirculation path? You planning from bottom to top, like the Braumeister, or top to bottom? Thanks! Michael

Cool build! Will you be using some sort of perforated basket or a voile bag, or ?? Michael

    Biab Beer Designer Spreadsheet

Yes, macros rarely work from app to app. But designing in .ods would allow anyone to use it, instead of just those who purchase Microsoft Office. OpenOffice is free for everyone - just download and go. It's very popular here in the US. Maybe not so much in Australia... Anyway, it looks...

Interesting! Thanks for the tip. I will look into it. Michael

For All Those Who Want A Braumeister!

Good find! Does indeed seem that they are patenting (at least in Germany) the "malt pipe" portion. Michael

For All Those Who Want A Braumeister!

Not that I can find. Speidels claim patent #DE 101 50 395 B4. That's a very strange numbering convention. Perhaps it relates to something German given the "DE", but they don't specifically note what exactly is patented anyway. The only thing I can really see as being patentable is the malt tube...

    Worms - Bucket

Pretty cool! It'll be interesting to see how it works. I think it will do fine. Is the height of the "recirc ring" adjustable? Michael

    Braumeister NEXTGEN Build

FYI: Here's a place in California that specializes in stainless mesh. Lots of different sizes and apparently, they can cut into custom discs. Minimum order is $75. I haven't tried them yet, but though it might be useful for someone. http://www.twpinc.com/twpinc/products/TWPCAT_12 Michael

Ghetto Braumeister - Biab W/ Controller

No. The grain is in the tube. A pump pushes the wort up through the tube (and grain) and spills over the top edge. It's a simple recirc, but up through the grain instead of down. I've attached a sketch of how it works. I didn't create the sketch. I saved it off another forum, but can't remember...

Ghetto Braumeister - Biab W/ Controller

Inspirational indeed! I bet he gets it to work. I am not sure about the recirculating up through the malt pipe - not sure of the advantage, and it seems like lots of disadvantages in the engineering. I'll be following this. Michael

Ghetto Braumeister - Biab W/ Controller

Not sure if this has been posted before.... An Italian homebrewer is attempting a Braumeister clone. Sketchy google translation: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...26prmd%3Divnsfd Michael
