How To Brew Antioxidant Rich Beer

Cheers Pumpy, excellent. So basically maltier, higher hopped and unfiltered homebrewed beers are higher in antioxidants than their megaswill companions. I think our hobby is now validated and future expenditures are simply a health product when discussing with the minister of finance (the...

    Hop Rhizomes

Can I suggest POR. I know, I know, but apparently fresh theyre pretty good and everyone who I have spoken to who have grown them have had success. I was just despondently watering my 2yo Mt Hood and Werty and considering growing them under shadecloth next year, now adelaide is officially hot as...

    Modified Malts

Warren Sure it wasn't just chill haze and by doing the protein rest you just decreased the quantity of haze proteins which would have been removed by chilling the wort anyway?

    Ideal Mash Tun Volume

Yep, 25lt+ esky. I get 90% efficiency with batch sparging in my 26lt Willow, and can make 25lt at 1.045 quite easily, but this is because I have everything dialed in from years of use. If I did it again I would go bigger (about 35lt). With the catering urn the thermostats arn't usually very...

Weyermann Pilsner - Level Of Modification

I agree, the times I have done a protein rest with weyermann munnich or pils it has been hit and miss in the body and head retention department (ie no head). Also if you look at the endosperm length it is about the same length as the grain, which is a simple measure of being well modified (to...

    Mid Strength Lager

I agree, lots of good hops and use good malt (weyermann pils) with maybe 5% melanoidin or 10-20% munich. I quite frequently brew a Pils style OG=1.040 and IBU 35-30 with good continental hops. turns out about 3.8% ABV and very popular. Dont mash high, you will mask the husky-grainy sweetness...

    40l Catering Urn

Hi, I have decided I have struggled tipping 20lt of hot water from a stock pot into my mash tun for too long. Its time to get an urn, theyre stainless steel, have an electric element, thermostat, tap and a sight gauge. I have priced up building a HLT with all the bits I want but it gets over...

    Help With A Recipe Please

If you cooked them Chicken, would they complain if it didnt taste like KFC or Red Rooster? Because thats what complaining about HB is eqivalent to. Brew something you like too, but know that is not too weird that the more adventurous mega swillers will not - take a little sip - then a mouthfull...

    2007 Hop Plantations

Thats good news mfds about a possible decent aussie saaz or halletau cultivar, pity the yanks and kiwis did it 20 odd years ago. Hmmm Kaichen HPA? Im green with envy Screwy, how many seasons have you had the werty? Keep them in semi shade, I had about 12 Mt Hood struck cuttings die from the...

    2007 Hop Plantations

Yeah I reckon I'll have a few wuertemberger to swap too. second year in a big pot and it has about 20 shoots with the main ones seriously challenging the Mt Hood. I have about 12 trained allready, so probably cut off and strike the rest.
