    Infected Wort Before Pitching Yeast

Finally got around to stripping the boiler after working all weekend and found the drain tap filled with slime! I've always washed it out after the boil and rinsed with hot water and sanitiser, I thought that this would be enough but obviously not. Anyway, at least I've learned something...

    Infected Wort Before Pitching Yeast

Thanks for the input everyone. I crash chill with a copper coil to about 35deg and cover it with a clean towel, let it sit overnight to drop to about 20deg before running into a fermentor and pitching the yeast. I guess this gives it plenty of time for nasties to get in! I then run it straight...

    Infected Wort Before Pitching Yeast

Hi all, I made an AG pils on Sat and had an older pack of Wyeast yeast. I put the wort into a fermenter first thing Sunday morning as I normally do and air locked it but the yeast still hadn't swelled the pack. The wyeast pack swelled today and I went to aerate the wort but it smelled...

    Nsw State Homebrewing Competition 2008

Hi all, This will be my first competition and as a new AG brewer and I am mainly entering to get some feedback on my beers, and what I need to do to improve them. Is there a link explaining the point system, possible score totals and what areas of the beer are...

My Kegged Beer Is Crap Compared To My Bottled Beer

Les, I haven't tried the original Ayinger Dunkel, but I'm very happy with how this one tastes in the bottle, even after only 3 weeks. I used Wyeast 2124 bohemian lager yeast. If you're ever in the Maitland area, drop in and I'll give you a bottle, and you can give me some weizen...

My Kegged Beer Is Crap Compared To My Bottled Beer

I usually have my beer balanced at 14psi at 4deg, the reckoner says 6deg for that pressure. I'll adjust the pressure and give it time and see how it goes. Thanks BJL

My Kegged Beer Is Crap Compared To My Bottled Beer

No, I just burped the keg, then dropped it down to 1deg. Should I be carbonating it whilst its lagering? Also, I've emptied about 1 litre so far hoping to clear the area around the pick up tube.

My Kegged Beer Is Crap Compared To My Bottled Beer

Hi all An ag brew I put down about 6 weeks ago was a dark lager based on the Ayinger Altbarish Dunkel recipe in Wheeler and Protz book "Brew classic European Beers at home". It spent 9 days in primary, seven in secondary and after filling a corny keg, I had enough left over to fill...
