Mash recirc

Hey DJ.
Liking the pics. Just wondering where you got the stainless float ball from. Had a look and cant find them.
Thanks

Thanks mate. Good ol` Fleabay, chinese seller, it's gone up a couple of dollars though http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/52mm-Stainless-Steel-float-ball-For-magnetic-level-switch-Silver-Tone-/191238699787?hash=item2c86b6fb0b:g:164AAOSw~gRVknbA

One word of advice, takes some getting used to finding a good balance between a slow enough flow rate so as not to dig up and channel the grain bed, but still having the flow enough to get a good swirl. I'm on RIMS so I need as high a flow rate as possible, but I let the grain bed settle for at least 15-20mins into the mash before I crank up the flow :)

I knew Id seen a pic of this float setup somewhere! Im thinking of trying this as a transfer hose from BIAB to cube. Im thinking the silicone hose might stir up too much trub with all the thermals though. Is that a bit of stainless tube at the end of the float or is it just the hose sticking out? Nice setup btw.

So you want to use this float as a suction point and basically siphon from the top of your wort into your cube? If you can get the siphon working and also not move the hose/float at all during the transfer it would work. BUT one of the single biggest improvements in trub formation and settling in my kettle I have made is to leave the lid on the Kettle for the entire time after whirlpool. The heat convection current will continually stir the trub if you don't have a lid on. So a hose sticking out the top may make this impossible? I personally use a female 1/2" 90degree elbow a few mm (enough to be able to screw it onto the through wall threaded bar) off the pot floor and transfer as slowly as possible, wort is clear as anything using this pickup as the velocity into the elbow is quite slow due to the wider mouth. Pic here http://aussiehomebrewer.com/gallery/image/8641-new-kettle-pickup-install/

It's not SS tube out of the float it is just thin walled silicone hose pushed through. The cheap keg king stuff will fit but all the others are a bit too thick to fit through the float. I use thicker hose on all other parts of my brew rig though. Cheers!

I saw that with my last brew. I had the lid off watching the transfer and half way through bigs chunks of trub started moving around for no apparent reason.
