Hey Guys,

if i brew 40L @ 1.050, 40IBU's and 32EBC and then water it down by a 1/3 in the fermenter (which will give me 60L @ 1.033, 27IBU's and 24EBC)

i've end up with the L, IBU's & Colour i want plus with a bonus of 40L being alot easier to manage on my system and lift etc.

i'll mash higher say 70*c and use alot of specialties to boost the body.

am i missing anything blatently obvoius?

Cheers Rob.

Beersmith bas a dilution tool, Promash probably does too.
High gravity brewing then watering down is a good way of wringing more out of your system, getting the colour right is probably the hardest part.
It all looks good to me.

I have read that it is not an unusual practice for the mega brewers.
(Vlad, why aren't you at work)

Nope, except colour maybe, which is not linearly related with dilution.
If you ain't concerned about colour, all the rest should be good.

Remember to use dechlorinated water when diluting. If you are diluting after fermentation then you will need both dechlorinated and deoxygenated water.

Cheers,
PJO

Hey Guys,

i did try the dilution calcluator vlad but it only gave me SG see below.

so i designed a 60L recipe in promash then adjusted the batch size to 40L and this gave me all the required figures.

ok, i didnt know about colour so will it come up darker or lighter?

Cheers Rob.
