WA BEER WEEK
Friday 2nd June - Clancys Fremantle 7.30pm

Any of you Sandpeople heading on down, 12 beers including 2 special brews apparently.

I'm trying my hardest to develop a reason to be in Freo on Saturday.....

Vlad - you're a b@$!@#

May be there, figure it's not that much of a drive from work and any excuse for a beer is valid.

damn, first i heard of this - alas, i also have to go to an event involving a bunch of nurses (no, not joking - my mates gf is leaving for Alice Springs and shes a nurse and all her mates will be there - woot!) ...

... there are few things id pass up an opportunity for a great little beer event, and nurses +beer is one of them.

Bring the nurses along! Then everybody wins.

You know I speak the truth, and have the best interests of everybody at heart.

Hi all,
Just a quick report on the launch last night.

I was lucky enough to get tickets to the event, which entitled me to free beer!

To be honest, the event seemed to be a bit of a shambles, and certianly had no structure, but maybe this is the way craftbeer events happen?

The crowd was predominantly middle aged men with beards.

There was around 20 craft beers on tap for the event.

As I am in the middle of exams, I could only smaple a few ales, here are the ones I tested:

Feral Sctoch Ale:
Much anticipated as was purported to be a "Belgian style" scotch ale, it was dark and extremely sweet (Underattenuated?), did taste scotch, but not belgian. 12/20

Jarrah Jacks HOney porter:
A real surprise, I have tasted most of JJ's beers before, and was a little underwhlemed, but this porter, served on Nitro, was excellent, roasty, good mouthfeel, a bit of hop spiciness, and a great honey overtone
a pleasure: 16/20

Elmars Alt beer:

I really dont know much about Alt's but this was crisp, and drinkable.

Little Creatures Bright Ale,

I think LC are on a winner with this, it was flowing like you wouldnt belive, amazing golden clarity, no real aroma, but plenty of american hops tasitness and bitterness, a great beer. 15/20

Despite all this good beer there were plenty of mullets at the event, drinking VB and bourbon and cola cans....?

I too rocked up to the event.
Would have to agree with Sinkas review of the night, with a couple of exceptions.

Jarrah Jacks Honey Porter :- The sample I had was heavily Honey biased. There was the Porter taste in the background, but didn't have the complexity of a true Porter (or at least how I think Porter is meant to taste)

Feral Brewing, Belgium White :- I'm by no means an expert on Belgium beers, so I have no idea what this was trying to be, but I thought it pretty bland. It was pretty cloudy and went down easy enough but tasted like fizzy water  My friend said the same, so don't think it was just me.

(Who made this ??) Mex Lager :- Pretty much everything you'd expect of this style, clear, easy to drink, think it was spiked with coriander and orange zest as it reminded me of the Colonial Brewery Kolsch (that I had ages ago mind you) which had the same treatment. Very similar to your basic corona, but the coriander and orange zest meant you didn't need the lemon for flavour.

Elmars Overdraught Alt Beer :- Great session beer, it had taste (though I can't think what to compare it to), friend and I sunk a jug in very short order. Dark beer in the glass, but doesn't taste heavy, so...

Bootleg Brewery, Wils Pils :- The girlfriend was sinking these (fan of Pilseners) but I don't know, I don't like it too many almost floral flavours to it.

Last Drop, Wheat Beer :- Again the Girl. This beer must have suffered in Transport or something. One of the Last Drop restaurants is just down the road and the wheat always tastes crisp, not so at Clancy's.

(Who made this ?) Chocolate Beir :- Had to try it just to see what the fuss was about. Maybe my glass was dirty (it was starting to get on and the glasses were coming out hot from the dishwasher) but had no head, no carbonation. Tasted very chocolatee but not much like beer.

And that was the night. First time I'd been to Clancy's but seems like a nice little pub and I'd go again.
