Python swallows pet dog
A 5m python stalked a family's dog for days before swallowing the pet whole in front of horrified children. Even the children themselves were at risk from the reptile in the family's north Queensland home, says a snake expert. The boy and girl, aged five and seven, watched as the scrub python devoured their silky terrier-chihuahua cross at the home near Kuranda, north-west of Cairns, on Monday night. "Actually watching it unfold before your eyes was pretty gut-wrenching," their father Daniel Peric said. "We'd had the dog about five years, so it was part of the family." But the incident was not the first, he said. The body of their cat had been found in the preceding weeks, looking as if something had tried to swallow it, and on Sunday a smaller python ate their pet guinea pig.--AAP

Funny. I had an SMH and AHB window opened and immediately closed the snake story to find this thread. My favourite line in the SMH article was "The snake was today digesting the dog at Australian Venom Zoo and would soon be relocated to the bush."

So the snake eats the dog - and gets a holiday!

I saw the snake, it was pretty full on just the dog. I have severe doubts that it could finish off a child- even if it wanted to.

I saw the snake, it was pretty full on just the dog. I have severe doubts that it could finish off a child- even if it wanted to.

Maybe it couldn't eat a child, but it could easily constrict one to death.

They saw it "hanging around for weeks before and even found it in the dogs bed"?

It took the snake to eat their pet before they tried to do anything about it? If a snake the size of my eerrr.......... something long, was hanging around my backyard I would do something about it without delay.

I recon the Dad saw it but hated both there cat and dog.
