I came across this ad in the local Leader newspaper this week.
Have sent an email off to NMIT for more detail re scope & timing.
will post again when I've heard more about it.
Could be interesting.

same i'd be keen for more details, i might ring NMIT.
 
So i just rang them. Bird on the phone didnt have much of a clue about the course structure and stuff but she is e-mailing me the course subjects they cover...but heres all the other details...

Starts 24 July 2007

Runs for 8 weeks with class's every Tues night from 6pm - 9.30pm

There is one Saturday when they go and visit a micro brewery - she didnt know which one, i'd bet $5 its goat.

$179 Course Cost

She asked if i had already made beer and i said yes for about 3 years now so she said the course would prob not be best for me, more of a begineers ting' really.

I'll post up the subjects they cover when i get the e-mail.

BEER PRODUCTION* - EPPING

Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE (NMIT) offers you the opportunity to undertake the Beer Production course on a part-time basis.

This course is designed to give students who wish to gain experience in the practical elements of making Beer.

Topics include:

Beer styles study classic beer styles, Australian and hybrids.
Malt extracts and specialised brewing grains
how grain varieties influence beer styles
Hops and yeasts selection
to define the outcome by introducing, flavour and aroma to beer
Brewing procedures
including mashing the art of beer brewing
Troubleshooting and Packaging
Creating boutique styles of beer

Course details are as follows:

Tuesday July 24, 31
August 7, 14, 21, 28
September 4, 11
then Saturday September 15

Times: Tuesday evening 6 pm 9.30 pm and
Saturday (as timetabled)

Cost: $179.00 (includes entry level beer brewing kit)
Venue: Building L, Cnr Dalton Road and Cooper Street
Epping (Melway Ref: 182 C12)

If you have paid fees for courses starting in the 11 months prior to the course start you are now enrolling in you may pay less at the cash register, please ring 92691042 for costing.

WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING ENROLMENTS
You may enrol in person at Building L of the Epping Campus.
Students are encouraged to enrol during scheduled opening times.
Normal hours are Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

If you wish to enrol by mail please return enrolment form with payment by July 9 to: NMIT, Agriculture and Animal Science Department, PO Box 8, Epping, Vic. 3076.

*Please note conduct of this course is dependent on enrolment numbers.
Students will be notified a week prior if the class is to be cancelled.
