Hi All.

Does anyone have an extract recipe for something like London Pride?

I really miss it, and paying $7 a bottle from dan murphys is just a bit painfull.
(not to mention the bottled stuff has nothing on the fresh :beerbang: )

TIA.

This is a recipe I made a few times in my extract days & it was bloody close. Must get round to designing an AG version soon.

SG 1040
1.5kg Pale unhopped Extract
1kg Morgans caramalt Master blend (Equivalent to 800g Caramalt and 550g Pale Barley malt grain if you'd rather substitute grain)
500gm invert sugar
25gm Tettnanger hops
20gm Willamette (or Fuggle)
10gm Saaz

Add 500gms of extract to 4L of boiling water - Boil Tett & Willamette for 45mins. Add the Saaz for final 15 mins. Switch off heat & remove hops.
Add remaining extract, Master blend & invert sugar - stir to dissolve.
Make upto 23L with cold water & ferment as usual using Safale S-04 or your prefered ale yeast.

cheers Ross

Call me crazy if you will but I'd think when cloning a brew you'd want to use the same hops used in the brew.

Here's what BYO have to say about London pride and give a recipe, personally that recipe doesn't look right either.

The bottle says target, challenger and northdown hops used.
You would think the yeast closest to fullers would be wyeast 1968 or similiar but I have seen other recipes say use 1318 aswell.

this is the recipe from Brew your own real ale at home but does look like excessive use of invert sugar and maize and quite a low starting and finishing gravity. But i pressume this recipe would be the closest to the most reliable. The hops for a start line up with whats written on the bottle.

Anyway good luck and happy brewing.

Jayse, i agree - but I can assure you this is a very acceptable clone - otherwise I wouldn't have posted it. Often when you use extracts to make a brew, even following the exact brewery's recipe, it doesn't taste anything like the intended beer.

Cheers Ross

'The Ross Method'...... coming to a dodgy book store near you.

FWIW, my last Target/Northdown/Goldings brew (no Challenger) came out a dead ringer for Bass, and nothing like Fullers at all. I did use Nottingham dried yeast 'though.
