Hi Folks,

Got 100grams of these hop pellets.

Have seen limited comments about them and their use. Things like "tropical fruit flavours", new NZ variety, and the best... "Sweaty Pineapple Pants", which does give cause for some concern.

Am wondering what they might be best used to make? Was thinking maybe the Coopers Fruit Salad Ale maybe? What's your thoughts folks?

Am planning on doing a batch in the 30Litre fermenter.

Thanks,

Pete

I am drinking a Kohatu SMASH at the moment.

I don't not like Kohatu - but I wouldn't bother with it again. Well at least not as a single hop.

To me it does have the tropical fruit flavour but it is fairly subdued (some have called it bland)

For memory I dry hopped with 75g - and it isn't over the top at all. So my thoughts would be to use it with something else.

There's a bit of discussion about it here and here and again here

I ended up doing a basic 23Litre Coopers Unreal Ale recipe and dry-hopped with 100grams of kohatu. When I bottled it there was nice fruit salady smell and taste. I tried it 1 week later and couldn't even recogonise any of the kohatu anymore. Now 3 weeks on I can only faintly pick some sort of fruity flavour/aroma.

Not sure I'll be using it again. I can get the fruity flavours I want from lesser amount of other hops varieties like simcoe, citra etc.

Cheers,

Pete
