Is anyone using beersmith on linux under wine and if so are you able to print properly? I'm considering putting linux on my desktop (which is my only windows pc), but if beersmith doesnt work fully then it'll probably have to stick with windows.

hey Doc, is there a way to explain that to people like me? Or is Lucas talking in some type of code?

Cheers

Short answer No. If you are in IT, or an IT geek, then it requires no explanation :p
Otherwise, just ignore, RDWHAHB.

Just to save you thinking about using a lesser program ......

The beersmith FAQ says that you can run it under wine.

Check out the forums for Beersmith, lots of people are having success running it under wine. The trick seems to be to run the latest version of wine you can.

Hi

I run Beersmith under wine. I get some issues with some fonts rendering properly but other than that it seems to do the trick. I have not tried to print anything for some time but when I did it worked.

Are you confident enough to get the latest sources and compile yourself? If so you can make sure you have the latest version and any options you may want. If not I have had it running on a box with Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty with the standard wine that comes with it. Can't tell you the version number of it atm as I am on my Mac. I can get this for you this evening if you like.

thanks for the replies everyone. to clear a few things up, I already had beersmith up and running under wine (on ubuntu 7.04) but printing wasnt working.

I've since found that by switching it to win2k3 compatibility mode in the configuration panel i can get it to send stuff to the printer, but all the fonts are too large and the lines on the instructions/brewsheets dont show up. I'm thinking this is because it's using the gecko rendering engine in place of IE it's just not a drop in replacement. Might try and get IE installed tonight and see if I can get it to use that to render the brewsheets
