lads,

I was walking around chatswood chase shopping centre last weekend and stumbled across what appears to be a relatively new mag - Beers of the world.

It focuses on commerical beer producers - big and small with prob a higher emphasis on europe/uk.

I picked one up for a quick read - and at $10.00 it is a pretty expensive Womans Day magazine!!! - Not a huge amount of value to the aussie homebrewer.

It appears that todate 3 issues have been released.

www.beers-of-the-world.com (haven't checked out the web site)

have a peek - it may be your cup-of-tea..unfortunately not mine at the moment.

cheers

MWS

The one intersting thing is that the brits are producing it, rather than the yanks.

I too found it pretty light on content wise, for the price. The web page similarly so. It is still probably finding its way.

If it compares to any of the American mags it is All About Beer, but that does have a short homebrewing article in every edition.

I was given issue 2 and I liked it so much I asked for a subscription for a birthday present. Admittedly I read it sitting on a mine site in Indonesia where the only beer available was Bintang, but it really made me feel like heading off to the UK to some beer festivals. I've heard quite a bit about the Fat Duck restaurant in the UK and I thought the attempts to pair food with beer there were really interesting. Pricey, but written by people with a good knowledge of beer, good palates, and an ability to describe beer flavours, although it includes a few people with not such good knowledge of brewing.

I'll have to give it another more serious look.

I have to be honest, I have done little more than flick through it on the tram home from work on Friday. So my "review" should be taken with a very large pinch of salt. More of a first impression really.

I have had a few mad Amazon and Ebay moments lately, but I might bump this up the tram reading list, ahead of the 7 or so beer and brewing books bought in the last 7 or so weeks

nothing wrong with bintang, especially on a hot humid day in Jakarta :)

raiding neighbour's bins, on the other hand

its not a bad mag, picked it up the other day after lunch with you stu. its a bit light, not really from the brewer or brew interested person. seems a bit more aimed at the beer snob.

not snobby enough for my liking... seems to be all about promoting big breweries and the industry in general rather than being at all critical or intelligent... michael jackson is even in there praising stella artois for god's sakes.

terrible standard of writing (apart from mj) too. wentworth courier standard.
ill stick to the web for my beer info.
