    Chocolate Grain

Hey guys. I am going to steep some chocolate grain into a dark ale I'm making and had a question. Usually when I have done this in the past with crystal, I've steeped the grain in hot water and let stand for 20 minutes or so. This is also the instructions on the choc grain. However I have...

Partial Mash With Coopers Dark Ale Kit

Hiya, I was thinking of doing a partial mash using the following. 750g Ale Malt 750g Munich Malt 250 Crystal Malt 250g Chocolate Malt 25g Roast Malt The blue mountains brewing supplies website recommends this grain bill as a partial mash with Amber extract, but I was thinking of using these...

    Yet Another Infection Thread

Thanks for all the information guys. When I rack it I might chuck a little bit of dextrose disolved in water into the bottom of the cube to help form that protective layer of CO2.

    Yet Another Infection Thread

I am pretty strict on the sanitation. I soak everything in sodium met, then a good hot water rinse and then using phosphoric acid on top of that. If it turns out to be infected, then it will have be buggered as to why. Unless oxygen has someone gotten into it. The taste out of the sample...

    Yet Another Infection Thread

Haven't opened it as yet, I can see it all though the clear lid. The more I look at it, the more I don't believe its an infection. I have disturbed it a cple of times, between moving the fermenter in and out of the bath to keep the temp steady. Thats's my usualy trick at this time of year to...

    Yet Another Infection Thread

Thanks guys. What other things could cause the floaties, if not an infection? Seems strange for them to show up after a week of fermenting?

I'm due to rack it tomorrow. If the colony of flakes grows by tomorrow, then I guess the news won't be good.

    Yet Another Infection Thread

I've tried searching and reading the infection threads, but couldn't really find the answer to my question. This is day 8 of an 3kg ESB Aussie Draught and fermentation has finished. I get home from work today to discover these smallish off-white/yellowish flakes floating on the top of my wort...

    Mini All Grain

Thanks for the reply mate. I think I may have read that thread on grumpies you are talking about. Bonk seems to do a lot of these smaller AG brews. So you used a 10l esky for your mash tun? Was wondering about that. I was thinking of making one that was around the 10l mark for my smaller...

    Mini All Grain

Hey guys, Very soon I want to try my first AG brew, but on a small scale. Would like to start out by trying batches around the 10L mark, or half a standard size batch. Question is, is it simply a matter of having all the ingredients from a full bacth to do a mini batch? For example if I have...

    Cold Conditioning

The first time I racked from the jerry I siphoned from the rop until it was 3/4 empty and then put the tap in and drained from that till it was empty. Went the the local camping shop today and saw some nice 20l cubes, and the tap fits nicely. Liked the look of them more than the jerry I use...

    Cold Conditioning

Kaitai, No problem with secondary with bung in. Screw it out and attach the tap at bottling time (ie lie the cube on its side, lid tightened of course 8)). Just keep those threads clean! cheers Darren Won't this just mix the yeast that has dropped out of suspension back into the beer?

    Cold Conditioning

I have a feeling the issue is with the tap. Just can't get it to tighten, will only go so far before it clicks out of the thread and is loose again. Bung goes in with no problem. I'd hate to put the jerry can in the fridge and look the next morning to see all my beer on the bottom of the...
