Bay Rd Brewing - brew club meet?

I have been down a couple times now and they were absolutely packed every time. I tried a few beers and some were good, others average/uninteresting. Will be interesting to see what they bring out now as it looks like most of the lineup has been gutted for new recipes/styles. Doesn’t seem like...

    Help identifying off flavour

Yep since determined it was definitely oxidation as the beer darkened up significantly. I suspect its because I didn't purge the keg properly and it splashed in around the bottom - I've only been using a little 5L iKegger keg and have always filled it with silicon tubing and a bottling wand and...

    Help identifying off flavour

I meant non frost free haha oops. I’ll be equipped to do a closed transfer for the next batch. Thanks for the advice.

    Help identifying off flavour

A recent batch I've transferred to a couple of 10L kegs has an off taste... but only in one of the kegs. The best way I can describe the taste is pretty close to ice from the back of a frost free freezer... It's also dropped off a lot of the hop flavors compared to the other keg. Pretty...

Bay Rd Brewing - brew club meet?

Looking forward to trying this joint out. Only a short bus ride from my place to get there so hopefully I’ll have a new local

    Strange taste with Carbonation drops

Yeah I tried another bottle this weekend and the taste is mostly gone. Still needs another week though.

    Fermentation Fridge and bottle conditioning

I've had good experiences starting the cold crash on a Friday and bottling Sunday, I think 24 hours is probably enough time to settle stuff out to siphon off the top into a priming bucket. Obviously going to depend on beer and how much stuff you've added that's floating around. YMMV

    Central Coast Water

Sweet, I ended up purchasing Calcium Sulphate, Calcium Chloride and Lactic Acid last night - I'm thinking about getting one of those Caravan inline filters for the hose I use to fill my Grainfather otherwise I might just get some campden tabs too. Thanks for the link; I've been looking at...

    Central Coast Water

Hi all, I’ve seen some similar threads but thought this might be deserving of a fresh thread. I’m starting to read up on water treatment as I’ve been using water straight from the tap and wanted to start brewing some more hoppy, fruity styles like XPAs and the popular NEIPA... based on this...

    Fermentation Fridge and bottle conditioning

Correct, cooler temps drop things out of suspension faster and compact the cake at the bottom of the Fermenter a bit more. Still have enough yeast hanging about after cold crashing to bottle though.

New Brewer - Q about temperature control

Definitely look at getting a fridge. I’ve got an ITC-308 which is similar to the STC1000 but comes pre wired and you just plug in the fridge and heater device (I have a heat pad stuck to my fridge wall) Super simples

How much Starsan is too much?

Hey Steveski, I once had a blow off tube higher than my fermenter and long story short I siphoned in about 200ml of Starsan solution. Didn’t hurt the beer in the end but I felt like a bloody fool :)

    Time in FV before bottling

I bottle and usually cold crash at day 10 and bottle around day 13/14. Most of my beers are done fermenting around day 7 which is when I dry hop for 3 days before cold crashing to drop everything out of suspension before I bulk prime and bottle.

    Strange taste with Carbonation drops

Hi all, I’ve spent some time searching for this so apologies if it’s already been answered. I’ve been brewing for a few years now and have always used table sugar to bulk prime while bottling until recently when I was given a two bags of Morgan’s Carbonation Drops. I have used two of these...

    Just sayin’ hi

Hi all, I’ve been brewing for a while but mostly dabbling with extracts, steeping, ciders and some mead. I’ve taken the plunge recently into All Grain with a Grainfather. Cheers!
