Australia Is A Nation Full Of Binge Drinkers

My name happens to be Jeremy.. I take offense to what you make of my name. I am a beer brewing/drinking kind of bloke who doesn't need this kind of crap.. I used to like you Michael.. How dare you....

    Dry Hopping Bottles

When I tried adding a single hop pellet to 6 Grolsch bottles a while back I got major gushers. The rest of the batch was carbed nicely. I tried uncapping each of the remaining bottles to let some of the Co2 out and then recapping and letting them settle. I did this and then would try another a...

    Country Brewer Cracked Munich Grain

What you have there is a base malt. It needs to be mashed. I have been critical of TCB's instructions on their grains whether they should be steeped or mashed. The instructions tell you to steep all grains in boiling water for 10-20 mins and then rinse with water and dump straight into the...

The Great Chinese Hop Buy 2009

The colour if the sky is yellow I tells ya ! I do smell onions in the MP but I don't say it smells bad. Also, I figure due to the quantity, you get overloaded with as Graham says Sulphur. I usually only open a 90g pack. Not 3kg worth at once. I have no doubt they will go a ways to making a nice...

The Great Chinese Hop Buy 2009

I think someone said this is a trait of it being a high alpha hop. I will be interested to hear the results of the MP being dry hopped.

The Great Chinese Hop Buy 2009

Now that I have opened them I would say the main one for the onions is the Marco Polo. The Cascade has it a bit and the Saaz even less. I must say I have never handled this quantity of hops before so the whole aroma thing is overwhelming. I can only imagine what the packers went through. They...

The Great Chinese Hop Buy 2009

My hops just arrived here in Bathurst. A big thanks to Townsville and the boys for the time and effort on this. My 3 x 1 kgs all arrived intact but I do see how those flimsy bags could have easily busted. I haven't got accurate enough scales to offer exact weights. Onions onions onions. That is...

It Does Not Pay To Be Cheap!

I have the same el'cheapo Ebay urn and it has no rust on the element. I have done 5 brews and really like it. The element does crudd up in the boil and I just give it a scrub with a PLASTIC scourer and it comes good. Just give it it a clean.. She'll be right.. Happy brewing !

    Duelling Yeasts!

I recently did a brew with s-33 and US-05 deliberatly as I had half a pack of US05 and the S-33 is only 6 grams. It had equal characteristics from both. I don't know if I would bother again though. If you dont want the cider yeast to get much of a hold maybe try fermenting around 14c as...

It looks like most orders are for 3 kg or less. The best method for posting is the 3kg express bag to anywhere in Aus for about $10 (maybe cheaper when bought in bulk). No savings to be made in setting up distribution centres IMHO.

Capping Cubes Avoiding No Chill Leaks

Does your cap have the rubber washer in it ? I have noticed that sometimes they are missing. I also have no such problem. If anything it is hard to open again.

    Boiler/mashing Coffe Urn

I started out with 2 of the BIGW 19l stock pots. I was doing perfectly good brews with them. I found that doing the main boil on the stove made the kitchen dripping wet in winter. I would open the windows and put a pedestal fan there and still too much condensation. I do agree that the 30l urn...

IMO the 3kg express postage bag for $10 is the most efficient option. If it was me running the show. I would just offer a sampler of 3 x 1KG hops in an express bag. Same cost across all of Oz.
