Do you use whirlfloc? That will coagulate the proteins, could be this that you are seeing?

They have been working well for me for a while, used to use the old school airlocks for a while and had a bit of krasuen get in there was very difficult to clean out. Only time ive had a problem with them is last weekend when i used an aggressive IPA yeast in a DIPA and a strawberry milkshake...
