How to dispose of spent grains?

+1 for the chooks. I took 10kg of grain across the road for my neighbour after I brewed last, they loved it. I figure I'll just keep doing that - it's a win for him (Free chook food) and a win for me (get rid of it without throwing it out). Cheers, Matt

    Matt's DIY Keezer build

Thanks Ben - it was a fun project and continues to keep the beer cold, which is the main thing. Watch this space - I'm planning on upgrading it to a 4-tap font in the very near future to get it ready for summer :) . I look forward to seeing what you come up with in your build! Cheers, Matt

Any way to search for can recipes?

Thanks for the advice and pointers all - that's great! I didn't know about the Coopers site - I'll have a read through and put some on the list :) I've been reading up on the Toucan idea, and can't decide whether I'm game enough to give it a go. Seems that it really divides people's opinions...

Any way to search for can recipes?

Hi team, Quick question - is there any way to quickly search for can recipes here? I've browsed through the Recipes section, but it's mainly Ag recipes. That makes sense - there's a lot more variability there. I'm still a can man myself though, and looking for some new ideas. Is there a...

    Matt's DIY Keezer build

Thanks Yuz - that does actually help a lot! That's the main thing Abird! I can heartily recommend NOT adding up the receipts :D Do you have a thread somewhere showing your keezer build? I'd be keen to have a look. Sounds perfect. I'll have a look at that site, but I'll hide my credit card...

    Matt's DIY Keezer build

Hey Phildo - what's the advantage of the washer bottles over the sprayer? Does it do a better job, or use less sanitiser? Very interested... Hey Count, All up cost? You don't want to know. *I* don't want to know. Triple-tap kegerator would be cheaper, and would definitely be quicker. This...

    Matt's DIY Keezer build

My handwriting is terrible, isn't it! Always has been. Maybe I should get my daughter to write on them instead - I'm sure she'd be up for it. :D :D :D Intertaps are cool. Very happy with them. They're solid, and they work well. VERY happy I sprung the extra for the FC - I find myself fiddling...

    Matt's DIY Keezer build

Update: Tap labels done: Pieces of ply with green chalkboard paint on them. Magnets screwed to the back make them stick together on the taps whilst also being simple to remove. Not the fanciest setup, but I've come around to the green colour. Alethiest - I've just remembered that I owe...

    Matt's DIY Keezer build

Hi Aletheist, I love the 199L GVA - it's the perfect size for me. And the fact that it can take 3 x 19L kegs without a collar is the icing on the cake. I don't have a 9L keg yet, but I'm confident it'll fit on the hump. I just measured the hump space now, and it's 21cm x 40cm (base) x 45cm...

    Matt's DIY Keezer build

Update time! It's finished (almost)!!! It's been a hive of activity over the past few weeks, but happy to say that the main build is now complete and I pulled my first beers last night. I've got a Pacific Ale on the left tap, and a white IPA on the right. How it stands: There's...

    Matt's DIY Keezer build

Thanks Aussieemu - it's slowly coming together. Costing a lot more than I had originally anticipated, and taking a lot longer too. But I prefer to build things the once and use quality gear - then enjoy (hopefully) years and years of trouble-free service. That's the story I tell myself so I...

    Matt's DIY Keezer build

More updates! I've got the mini orb on the frame: ...and trimmed down to the right height: Next job was to varnish the top as suggested by Brewno - cheers! I replaced the gal cup head bolts with countersunk stainless bolts, and cut the insulation out on the inside of the freezer lid...

    Matt's DIY Keezer build

Made some progress on the keezer bar this weekend. Hit up Bunnings and spent a fortune on treated pine and castors. Also found a neat pre-fabbed shelf panel/board to serve as the bar top - saves me making my own. First order of business was to build a sled/frame for the freezer. I wanted it on...

    Matt's DIY Keezer build

Hi team, It's time to document the start of my keezer build project for internet posterity. Thanks to everyone who gave advice in my previous thread (https://aussiehomebrewer.com/threads/advice-on-beginners-ikegger-system.97510/) . I've listened to most of it and stubbornly ignored some -...

    Advice on beginners iKegger system

Only interested if the swan comes with it :D That does look good. Might be the way I go. The timber collar really makes it look a lot nicer than just a freezer. I have been looking at coffin keezers, but I'm guessing they have similar heat-loss issues to a font. I've been trawling FB ads and...

    Advice on beginners iKegger system

So all my kit arrived today. Turns out the 2 kegs that I've bought DON'T fit in the little Westinghouse bar fridge. What a shame. I'm guessing there must be different sizes in the 19L keg market. SO - do I look to: Try and sell the kegs, and buy different kegs that fit in the fridge, or Keep...

    Advice on beginners iKegger system

Thanks Grott - makes perfect sense. In a fit of "Let's just do this", I've given the old credit card a hammering. Aus Post will be bringing me: 2 x used 19L kegs 8m of 4mm ID / 8mm OD beer and gas line 2 x gas disconnects 2 x beer disconnects 1 x regulator 1 x intertap SS fc tap w/ handle...

    Hi there from sunny FNQ

Thanks guys - it's a good crowd here for sure. 2 fridges purchased and on the patio. Thanks Facebook! It is a slippery slope, isnt' it? Good luck in your fridge search Brewnicorn. Thanks Leigh! At this stage I'm focussing on just brewing kits and getting a decent, repeatable and drinkable...

    Advice on beginners iKegger system

I've been thinking about your idea Grott, and I suspect it's the way that I'll go. A stand for the fridge to get it up higher, and a couple of taps straight out the side. If I go out the left side facing the bigger fridge in the photos, then the taps will be protected from general traffic...

    Advice on beginners iKegger system

Possibly. This is the area: Excuse the chair in the middle - it was evicted from where the bar fridge is now sitting, and I've yet to find a home for it. It might have to go on a stand/table. A mate of mine around the corner has the Mangrove Jack 2-keg kegerator with the font, but he...
