Whats On Tap At The Platform Bar - Brissy

I'll be popping in here on Wednesday night as I'm in Brisbane on business. Say hello to the bespectacled bloke on his own :D

    Little Creatures Special Bitter

I had some of this at The Local Taphouse on Saturday and liked it a lot. Malty and a relief from all the crazy hopped Pale Ales on.

    White Rabbit Brewery, Healesville.

If people are still looking for bottles of this in Sydney, it's in the Cellarbrations on Pacific Highway in Crows Nest. $19.99 for six, which seemed a bit steep for something that wasn't so dissimilar to Kent Old.

Sydney Ahb Pub Crawl May 2009

I'd meet you chaps for one along the way somewhere but I'll be on honeymoon. Denied.

    Where To Drink In Melbourne?

I put my head in there. They serve beer in ponys! I didn't realise you could still get those - not seen one in Sydney yet.

    Where To Drink In Melbourne?

Just back from Melbourne on business and managed to get to Mrs Parma's and Beer Deluxe. Both highly recommended. The Temple Special Bitter in Mrs Parma's really hit the spot, good choice there too and the food was filling. Service very friendly. Beer Deluxe a but more impersonal but the Temple...

    Brisbane Brewpubs

Cheers! This is tomorrow, so if you see a chap on his own in one of the top three establishments say hello as it may well be me.

    Brisbane Brewpubs

OK, so I'm going to be in Brisbane on Wednesday 1 April for business and I've been searching through the archives for pubs to go to. Here's the list I've come up with. Still going: Platform bar/Rubber Stamp - Grand Central Hotel (central railway station) International Hotel 525 Boundary Street...

    What are you listening to

Seen both of these bands in London over the years, enjoyed both. Also saw Patton with Naked City in Amsterdam. Can't help feeling that he's a bit of a tw*t though. Give me Jesus Lizard...

Friday Rant And Flame Fest - What Is Australia's National Beer?

No no no no no. Ireland yes, UK no. It may be on in every pub but it's by no means the UK's national beer. Bitter tends to be regional, but something like Carling (lager) is probably the closest you'll get to a national beer. Lager tend to be national, bitter (and/or "real ale") local.

    What are you listening to

I had a tape of "Time Is the Key" about twenty years ago. I did dig but I veered more towards Soft Machine, Hatfield and the North and National Health than Gong. Oh, and I'm a huge Kevin Ayers fan. Ah, Count Grishnackh. It's great that he's in prison for burning down churches and murder but he...

    What are you listening to

Even when they turn into Pierre Moerlen's Gong? You metal-lovers shoud hear "Filosofem" by Burzum. If you haven't already.

    The Local Taphouse Melbourne

It's on the left hand side of Flinders St, a couple of hundred yards off Oxford St. I walked past it on the way somewhere else before Christmas. Can't wait!

    Whats In The Glass (commercial)

Tonight it's Cooper's Stout, as the weather here is like bloody winter. Question for you all: a local bottlo has bottles of Murray's Anniversary for $30 (not to mention the 2IPA and the Grand Cru for just under $20). The most I've ever paid for a bottle of beer is 12 Euro ($23.50) for a bottle...

Aussie Craftbrew No Match In The World Market

Geekorama. Is there even one in there that you could sink more than one of in a row? A list made for and by self-appointed "connoisseurs" who wouldn't know what to do in a proper pub or at a barbie.

What Does Australia Day Mean To You?

Or rather the legal obligation to vote, something that I have trouble with. While I think everyone should vote, I think everyone should have the right not to, if they choose. Making them go to the polling station to spoil their paper strikes me as odd.

    Monteiths

Had the Radler on tap in a pub near Circular Quay (The Paragon? I was waiting for a ferry) the other day. Very refreshing. I was expecting a shandy but at 5% and with a much more lemony/lime taste than usual it wasn't like a shandy at all, other than being very easy drinking. You've all made me...
