    Capping empty bottles for storage?

I recently came into a whole stack of Pickaxe longnecks, but they're absolutely filthy. Theres too many to use in a few batches, so I'm going to need to clean them and store some empties long term. My plan is to clean them in batches, soak in starsan and then cap them with some cheap crown seals...

First Pimped Kit: (Inspired by) James Squire Hop Thief

Just took the first gravity reading after 11 days in primary and it's down to 1.011 - the sample had great head and tasted pretty much as hoped, perhaps a little bit over-hoppy compared however I'm sure this will smooth out with some bottle conditioning. Will need to do a side-by-side taste test...

    Ebay, Gumtree and FB Marketplace

The sticker on the top of it says it's got an input for both heating and cooling, but it looks like it's only got one set of terminals on the back. Classy!

    Scaling hops for Mini BIAB

thanks for your thoughts - glad to hear my calculations were somewhat accurate. I think I was just thrown off by the fact that my last (kits and bits) batch used 70g of hops to a prehopped tin (nothing over 20mins though) to such a small amount. Thanks for picking up on the missing hops at...

    Scaling hops for Mini BIAB

I'm looking to try out my first full grain BIAB using Dr Smurto's Golden Ale as a template, however I'd like to use up some leftover Columbus (13.5) hops I have in the freezer (I've also got Simcoe 13 in there as well). I'm looking to scale the recipe down to give a final 9L in the fermenter...

    website deals of the day

G'day Stienberg - let us know how they are once you crack one! Is there any chance you'd be able to weigh one of the empty bottles as well? Looks like they might be the same bottles used by a number of craft breweries that are really solid (around 300g?)

WTB in ADL: James Squire (345ml) & Bundaberg Ginger Beer (375ml) b

thanks for the heads up MaltyHops - I did notice that despite being 30ml larger than the Squire bottles they were 20g lighter. Looks like I better stick to JS stubbies then... Edit: I just noticed you're in Magill MaltyHops - I'm in Magill as well! Would you be able to point me towards a...

WTB in ADL: James Squire (345ml) & Bundaberg Ginger Beer (375ml) b

As the title suggests, I'm looking to purchase some extra stubbies as I've only got enough for a single batch. I'm looking for James Squire 345ml bottles (with the Malt Shovel band on the neck) and 375ml Bundaberg Ginger Beer bottles in Adelaide. In total I'd be after 150-200 however willing to...

    Two questions about a recipe...

I hadn't heard of psudo bulk priming before, however it does look like a great idea - mixing the consistant dosing of carb drops with the economy of bulk priming. Definately will give this a try

    Two questions about a recipe...

Yep, a priming spoon is just a spoon that's the right size for scooping the correct amount of dextrose per bottle. You can get one from most homebrew stores or I think BigW even have them. It should have 2 ends (1 for stubbies, 1 for longnecks) or some have a third measure for 500ml bottles...

    Two questions about a recipe...

G'day Az, I'm no expert but hopefully can help out 1) I'd add the malt when the water is hot but not quite boiling. This way you've got time to prepare for the hot break (where the wort starts to foam) and grab a stirrer. I'd wait until after the hot break to add the hops. 2) Rather than...

not one of the beers, but I recently made up one of the Mangrove Jack's apple ciders - came up very nicely

First Pimped Kit: (Inspired by) James Squire Hop Thief

G'day Meo - I did use a grain bag when steeping the Crystal however I had to strain everything at the end as my hop pellets turned to mush in the boil. Is this normal?

First Pimped Kit: (Inspired by) James Squire Hop Thief

After making a few kit & kilo's back at university, I decided to take my first steps towards "real" brewing and pimp up a kit before moving on to a full extract brew - providing me to practice steeping and hop additions without committing to a full extract recipe. I recently tried a James...

Dried equivalent for Coopers Wheat LME?

I'm looking to put down a basic batch of the infamous Dr Smurto's Golden Ale, however I prefer to use dried malt extract as opposed to liquid. What would be the equivalent DME to Coopers Wheat LME? I've found 'Bavarian Wheat' DME however is this any different? The 'Bavarian' bit in the name is...

    taking gravity levels

I tend to drink each sample after getting the measurement (got to see how things are progressing!) and then give the hydrometer and testtube a quick rinse out with water. I don't bother sanitising the hydrometer as it's not coming back into contact with the wort.

    G'day from Adelaide

Hi there! I'm just starting to get back into home brewing - I made a few rubbish batches in my university days, but now that I've got a bit more disposable income and a more appreciative palate, it's time to jump back in. I'm currently brewing up a Vanilla and Cinnamon Cider ("Sacrilege!" I...
