Did you use the sparge calculator when rapping up from 75 Deg (mash out) to boil ? This does speed up the time to boil process.

    RAPT fridge...I bought 1....Review

Got one myself and just fermenting a pale ale. I changed the hysteresis gap heating and cooling to 1 deg. I am using the pale ale profile and it seems to be performing okay. Left the compressor delay to 54 minutes. Since it has been rapping up a deg a day I did notice it was heating a bit...

How to get started in Cider. The definitive(ish) guide to beginner&#39

Dave, I have pasturised in the Keg by heating to 65 deg and leave for 10 mins. I don.t think from memory it was very successful. We do scrumpy cider with the neighbour each year and he bottles with the 750ml pet bottle and has pasturised without much success. I use Mangrove jacks yeast. I am...

    Pear Cider

Okay thats good to know. Did the same quantity last year and used the same yeast and did not have any problems. Next time 1 per 5 litres. It has started to ferment, but very slow, so yes I would say that the Campden tablets have inhibited the yeast growth. Cheers

    Pear Cider

I think next time I will only put in 1 Tablet per 5 Litres 1 Imperial Gallon is equilivant to 4.55 litres. So 48 litres = 10.5 Imperial Gallons so 2 tablets per gallon (PH 3.4 to 3.6) = 21 Tablets Put in 20 Tablets. On a lighter note A quote from Edgar Allan Poe “Believe nothing you hear, and...

    Pear Cider

My bad spelt Campden tablets incorrectly. (have edited) The 24 hrs wait is mainly for the effects of the Campden (metabisulfite) tablets to dissipate otherwise fermtation will stall. Mangrove Jack's Says to pitch yeast direct (which I did on the last 20 grams) or rehrydrate and pitch) I though...

    Pear Cider

I would hope so. I have used it on Apple Cider. Also waited the required 24 hrs before adding yeast. Could be a good point, because I know when I also used it on Apples a couple years ago it was very slow to start. I added 2 tablets per 5 litres and thats the required does for PH of 3.6 so I...

    My malting procedure

Malted Mick. Yes. Sounds like you are a tinkerer like myself, you get the bug and keep going. I am thinking along these lines. Using a Extractor fan so it blows air in the top of the Machine (Replacing the Ozito blower) This moves about 180 CFM. I would run ducting through a jockey box that I...

    My malting procedure

Tubbsy. No its a halogen turbo oven I see K-Mart have them for $45 at the moment Make sure you get the 1300 Watt one. I dry at 40 60 deg C and than Kiln at 80 deg C for 3 to 5 hrs. I just judge by the look of the grain and if its hard to bite into. Should be about 3% moisture I think I have...

    My malting procedure

Hey Tubbsy, Great Stuff, I have been malting on and off for the past 2 years and have just built a Germination - Drying- Kiln machine out of an old Beko front loader washing machine. (This is M11) less pulleys, 8 kg capacity and a variable speed motor. It is a real challenge malting in hot...
