    The yeast used is an English ale h I also added a few wood chips . It's that why the year would seem a.bit darker. It is also taking a couple of days at a time to settle . The pic is after 2 day's

    Hop shelf life

    I told my local brew shop that I have been using hops that are over a year old as I buy 100gm at a time cos it heaps cheaper. He said I shouldn't as they like their flavour,which probably true to a degree . I didn't mention that I store them in the freezer. Would this make a difference ?

    Washed yeast

    I've rinsed this yeast 3 times and as you can see there is a small lighter colored strip on the bottom. Is this the only part I keep ?

    I've been harvesting my yeast the last few months . 8 haven't had any problems yet but the second generation yeast I was going to use looks like it has dark spots in it . Does that mean it's gone off or just a bit of the old brew left in it ?

    Glad wrap lids

    What's the story with using glad wrap instead of the lid & air lock supplied ? I asked my b local home brewer & he had concerns about sterilizing . He also said if it ain't broke why did it. It's it a matter of plastic is just a lazy way of doing it

    I've just bottled 1 of my brews & after 1 day there is a scum around the top of the bottles. is this an infection in the beer ?

    High hydrometer reading

    I've just used a white labs liquid for the first time , followed the procedure as close as possible and kept the temperature on what I thought was 18 deg(I have a feeling my thermometer might be playing up). It's quite possible it was a few deg lower. I've been told by my local brew shop to...

    Liquid yeasts

    I'm trying my 1st liquid yeast, which is a white lab American hefeweizen. The guy at the shop said add it when the temperature is @ 21 deg. But on the bottle it says add above 21 deg. What should I go with ?
