    First Extract Brew - APA

Sorry... Should have done my research first... Found this thread/article. http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/articles/article130.html Seems pretty comprehensive. I'll give it a little longer and maybe consider racking to a second FV if I still don't get any movement.

    First Extract Brew - APA

So the FV is sitting at about 19C now with some towels wrapped around it. I took another reading today but it is still at 1.020. :( What other options do I have? Should I just give it more time at this temp or can I rehydrate and pitch a small amount of yeast? Should I just take it to the...

    First Extract Brew - APA

Thanks folks. I've brought it upstairs and covered it with a few extra towels and stuck a few hot water bottles close by to bring the temp back up a bit. I'll check it again on Sunday and see if the little lads have done a bit more work.

    First Extract Brew - APA

No. The FV is in a bar fridge with a towel wrapped around it. Would just put the heat pack in the fridge next too it. It probably won't elevate the temp for very long but would be the best I can do at present. If it stays where it is just under 1.020 and I have to just prime and bottle it what...

    First Extract Brew - APA

Yikes. I was hoping it would be okay. Brewmate have me a FG of 1.015 and it's sitting just under the 1.020 mark (just). I don't have a heat pad so I might throw in a heat pack and see if that helps a bit.

    First Extract Brew - APA

So it's been in the fv for 12 days and I just dry hopped 12g of Cascade (have not had a chance before now). The last 2 gravity readings have been about 1.020 (spread over a few days) so I am guessing it is pretty much done. It got a little cool over the last few days so not sure if this has...

First brew - I stirred in the yeast and I don't see bubbles

Just wondering how would you take a sample for gravity readings? Or don't you bother?

    First Extract Brew - APA

Looks interesting. I need to have a look into my options. I have a mate who is pretty electrically skilled so hoping he might be able to assist wiring in a controller.

I'll be looking into a control unit for the fridge, which works. Just have to look up the details of how to wire it in.

    First Extract Brew - APA

Thanks. Good idea. It's been fine over the course of the day (been between 17C this morning to 19C by early afternoon). I'll keep an eye on it and try that out if needs be in the evening to keep it warn but hopefully it will be okay.

    First Extract Brew - APA

Had a quick check this morning and all seems to be okay. Gravity is in the mid 1.050 (down from near 1.060 OG) and the aroma and taste seem good. The temp in the fridge has dropped to mid 17C (was at about 20C when I put it in yesterday). Not much I can do at this point but keep an eye on it...

    First Extract Brew - APA

"Gently stir for 30 minutes..." I can't say I would be willing to spend 45-60 minutes just re-hydrating the yeast. Not at this point anyway... Wort temp was below 26 and dropping as I was pouring I to the fermenter so I am relatively comfortable it will be okay. If I notice any off flavours in...

    First Extract Brew - APA

So it's in the fridge... Was an interesting first go at an extract. Took me about 3 and a bit hours end to end. I started off with a little too much water in the boil pot (didn't factor in adding the 1L I steeped the crystal malt in so I had to draw a litre or so out as it started to boil...

    First Extract Brew - APA

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am a little concerned the the ferment temp will be a bit lower. I have an old bar fridge I am going to stick the fermenter to try to maintain a more constant temp but it's reading an inside temp of about 15C at the moment (off). I was going to wrap the vessel in...

    First Extract Brew - APA

    Kit Fermentation Time

Thanks all. Temperature wise it has been between 24 and 25 degrees which I know is not optimal but will have to do for this attempt. I took another reading today and it is still at 1.010. I think I will give it another week in the fermenter and then bottle. I'm looking to bulk prime on this...
