    Water Report Mandurah WA

I used the customer enquiry facility on the Water Corp website. The tables in the annual reports don't provide the values for calcium, magnesium, etc. I sent an old report in to let them know what I was looking for. I have attached the current report for my area as an example. WJ

Yeast starters - a bit like "it never rains in Southern California"

There is a pretty cool solution to this problem that involves the use of a digital camera. WJ

    New to AGB. Equipment suggestions.

    1. Yes, gas burners on the HLT and kettle. 2. Melted the handle once with the HLT burner. Now provide a suitable space between and its off the stand getting cleaned while the kettle boil is going. 3. Its a "Keep Cold" 50litre cooler. I got it at the local plastics shop. I've seen them in camping...

    New to AGB. Equipment suggestions.

Basic (and cheap) AG set up. Continues to produce great beers. A small initial investment gets the beer flowing and upgrades can be introduced. I haven't bothered to change this since building it 12 years ago. In the process of adding a pump. WJ

    Yeast from bottle of beer...

The population of yeast cells in the bottle would be extremely low, risking stress on the yeast. Better to pitch the dregs from the bottle on an appropriately prepared starter. In regard to the Cooper's yeast, you don't want to ferment too warm otherwise you will get a banana flavour. WJ

    BYO Home Brew

Couldn't see the logic in it myself. Like Dave70 mentioned, its just snobbery. I could have brought some home made wine, and the manager said he would allow this, but not beer. WJ

    BYO Home Brew

Yeah, considered taking turns sitting outside the front door. The saving grace was that the food was very good. WJ

    BYO Home Brew

Hi all Just wanted to throw this one out there. A few of us went to a (WA) restaurant last night after checking when we booked that we were allowed BYO. When we rolled up with a growler filled with pale ale, we were told that the rules state "BYO wine only". The manager came and told us quite...

    Gout & Filtering Beer

Blood pressure increases as the artery narrows and compliance of the vessel decreases. Therefore, the further from the heart, the higher the pressure. The Venturi effect applies when there is a partial constriction (calcification, embolus, etc) of the artery leading to lower pressure beyond...

Ever had a beer you thought was infected but turned out great?

I'm pretty strict with cleaning and sanitising and haven't had a (noticeably) infected brew for about 30 years (I kid you not) I can't think of any way it could have happened. Mine wasn't so bad that I couldn't drink the keg dry. WJ
