Mill - What To Buy, And Why, And Where?

I've got one... Isn't hard to put a cutoff bolt in to it and attach a drill. However it munches the grain and being no expert on the mash, I'm not sure if this is the preferred outcome. I do seem to manage 70%ish conversion? The grist is fairly powderlike but doesn't seem to clog the old slot...

Whats Your Most Useful Brewing Gadget?

my ass... i sit on it whilst I drink beer and wait for the mash/boil to finish! the only problem is that I have to get off it every now and then and do stuff - need me a slave!

Beer Gift Packs With Glass Or Goblet

I recently met a bloke who worked at Guinness when he was a young fella. Unfortunatley it was before I had questions to ask re the beer we get here that is called "Guinness?" I think he worked in the mash section... You can never trust the Irish though...? To be sure, to be sure! :blink...

    Trappist Blonde Yeast

thanks for the input fellas - as mentioned it was a last minute "maybe I should try and culture this yeast" moment and I was unprepared. However, whatever it is, it is still ALIVE and I will see if it works on a couple of 750ml bottles. If it is bad I haven't lost much (but will still cry). If...

    Trappist Blonde Yeast

righto - so I steeped Simspon Marris Otter... Steeping would have worked better with the carapils I have or Caramalt. however, I didn't steep it at max 78deg, it would have been closer to 90 for around 5 minutes. My question is, did I kill both the bugs and/or enzymes, therefore having excess...

I am still amazed you can buy the bash on bottle cappers... why? Seriously why??? $5 and try your luck at nuclear fission or $60-70 and pop 100 caps an hour! WHY!!! why...

    Trappist Blonde Yeast

Roger that, will give that a go - just needed some guidance/confirmation and by your pic, you look like a man who knows his liquor! I didn't know about the boiling steeping thing? I was gonna wait till brew day but I wanted to give the yeast a go and was drinking the beer and well... you have...

    Trappist Blonde Yeast

true, but it was bloody hot for the first 15 minutes - used about 1L of boiling water. It is no different (I think) from steepacks and/or steeping grain for kit brews. Although I do also share your reservations...?

    Trappist Blonde Yeast

just attempting to culture the small amount of yeast left behind in the trappist blonde ale - steeped 100gm or so of grain for 30 minutes, cooled and poored into the remainder of one bottle, swished around and poored it into remainder of another bottle. Covered with glad wrap and a lacky. Had...

Experimental Mashing Technique - Needs Further Testing!

I find that playing a few tunes on the old butt trumpet helps to make the brew day smoother. That is, of course, as long as you don't follow through... It could be a factor of the post brew sweetness that I am currently finding as my farts do indeed smell like fairy floss. I also recommend...

New To Ag... My Adventures So Far

I haven't had an infection yet...? I did have a porter go bad due to crap kit yeast on my 3rd kit brew a few years back! My brew fridge grows a bit of mold due to the high humidity - going to drill a hole in it for the fermentor to vent out. I get mold on the outside but doesn't get inside of...

    The Missus And The Mash...

I can't see the problem, at least I am home... although once you start adding hops "speak to the mash tun as it aint busy at the moment" can get you in trouble. I did my first AG brew out the back, glad I did as there was sticky wort everywhere! Oh, and bees and flies and other bugs... I didn't...

New To Ag... My Adventures So Far

thanks for that Gavin. I had read about said causes of Diacetyl and would have thought it would appear before bottling? I have warmed up my latest brew to 24 deg C and am yet to bottle - it tasted good 3 days ago. My issues could be from what I understand to stem from either a dodgy boil -...

New To Ag... My Adventures So Far

So, I am up to my 6th AG brew - have done many a kit brew in the last 4 years and a few micro brewery bashes before that. The main driver being cheaper beer without compromising quality. So far, pretty much everything I have brewed is way better than a TED or other similar corporate bollocks...
