    Whats In The Glass

My first AG. A pils somewhere between Germany and Czechoslovakia... I think it turned out OK.

    Mash Thickness

G'day team, Only very new to AG, and was thinking about the gear that I have laying around. I'm hoping to do some high gravity brews at some point and would like some opinions... I have a 19L Coleman cooler that I have used as a mash tun. I also have a 50L kettle and a 20L HLT. I suppose my...

    Brew Oxygenation

Apparently aquarium pump and airstone are what a lot of people use. I personally just shake and stir the crap out of it for a few minutes. I read somewhere that the amount of oxygen dissolved with shaking is sufficient, but better with a pump set up. You definitely DO NOT want to aerate...

    Marris Otter As Base Malt?

I'm not so much of a purist, but just keen to get a few opinions in case I was making a silly noob mistake. Don't want to end up with a horrible beer - but am keen to experiment.

Oakeshott Tries To Put Microbrewery Tax On National Agenda

May need to move to his electorate just so I can vote for him in the Fed election.

    Marris Otter As Base Malt?

G'day team, I'm on my way to constructing a recipe for a belgian dark strong ale, and am considering using Marris Otter as the base malt. In my (reasonable amount) of reading up on recipes for this style I have not yet come across one that uses MO for the base malt. However, it sounds like it...

    What Went Wrong? Bohemian Pilsner

From my understanding (which is limited) I don't think it is diacetyl. The beer was definitely carbonated - perhaps not fully though. I'll let you know how they get on in a couple of weeks...

    What Went Wrong? Bohemian Pilsner

Thanks for your in-depth analysis! I wasn't trying to clone Urquell, just trying my hand at a pils. I did want to pitch lower, but as I said - ran out of time which sucks... maybe I should have just put the lid on and pitched a couple of hours later when I got home? Certainly not...

    What Went Wrong? Bohemian Pilsner

That's why I mentioned my thermometer... perhaps I don't trust it. I haven't tested it to see how accurate it is - I will do before my next brew. I will leave another couple of weeks and see what happens. Thanks for the input guys.

    What Went Wrong? Bohemian Pilsner

6.3% is what the pack from my HBS said. It did seem a bit higher than I had read about, but I can't argue with the pack! (Maybe mis-labeled?) Perhaps the hops were old and lost bitterness?

    What Went Wrong? Bohemian Pilsner

Is that likely to make it sweet though? I'm not noticing any real off- or unwelcome flavours. In fact, it's pretty good apart from the slight sweetness.

    What Went Wrong? Bohemian Pilsner

Hi team, First AG and first post, so please go easy! :) I have just embarked on the no look back journey to all grain brewing. Perhaps a little ambitious to do a lager rather than an ale first, but what the hey... I have just cracked my first bottle (perhaps a little early, but am so damn...
