    Viking Malts

Mate, I've worked on the grain harvest and at GrainCorp, etc where Aussie grain comes from. It sits in the sun under a tarp for however many months it takes a buyer to take it. Most sites have limited or no silos, but the tarp bunkers work almost as good in the short term anyway. Short term...

    Head to head

Not wrecked mate. I'd be surprised if you'd notice any difference to be honest.

    Hitting the wall

Mate as far as my experience went, i had half a dozen brews and a similar experience until i found a great local home brew store and started getting some advice on how to improve. The biggest thing a new brewer has to learn is that little things that might seem unimportant like fermentation temp...

    Pride of Ringwood

I reckon it'd be pretty coarse unless it has a long conditioning period to soften it. Let us know how you go if you try something though. I'd go easy on it though.

    Pride of Ringwood

I've not tried it, but would have thought you've now got plenty of stock bittering hops to use that would be perfectly usable though. Try a smash with a bit of late hop and see what it comes out like if you're really interested.

If you mean you're running your HEX in your HLT, I'd measure at the return to the MLT. If it's just purely a HLT, midpoint would sound about right. Get it far enough away from your element.

Seriously?!! "Put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up. You put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up.... I said Doctor..."

My Rogers Clone Recipe Tastes Great

Since when? Glad you fellas are enjoying playing around with this one so much. Trying to purely replicate colour over flavour I've found can be a bit of a trap, but I can't recommend a spot of caraaroma and a good decoction mash highly enough for a shot at something like this. Enjoy and good...

SS mash tuns found on ebay - are they any good?

I bought one mate and it was rubbish. That's where it went too! Flimsy as hell. Don't bother trying to penetrate it with any holes. It is two thin walls of stainless sheet with foam in between. The seams on mine were open top and bottom and it didn't seal properly. They did however replace it...

    Backyard bar build

Well done mate. That's a bloody pearler! I like the rustic uncoiled look personally.

Switching back to bottling from kegs

I just drank several dozen and washed them... Wasn't such a chore really[emoji39]

Bore Water contains Iron & Copper

I'm not 100% on top of water chemistry, but my basic observations over the years of living in the bush are as follows. Bore water is usually crap. Where I used to live, the iron content was so high, when you washed your cricket whites, they'd turn orange if you didn't use bleach. Not great for...

Is anyone using the Tempmate instead if PID and if so, do you have any issues with overshoot? Also, can the difference setting also be set in 0.1 increments?

Thanks gents, I appreciate it. Puts my mind at ease Dent to know someone's tried both and noticed a negligible difference.

Dedicated Herms Guide, Problems And Solution Thread

Hi all. A quick question if I can do so without provoking a flame war... I was planning to use 1/2" S/S tube for my HEX. I've been reading a lot of pages of this thread though (massive as it is) with many suggesting copper is a much better conductor. I could be well and truly wrong, but I...

    Herms system.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I'll start out with what I had planned I think and see how it goes. No doubt it will evolve somewhat from there and in the meantime, I'll still be making a decent brew I think! Cheers[emoji482]

    Herms system.

Yeah, I'm not sure if my idea is really viable, but was trying to work with what I have and keep it simple. My basic brew day plan was as follows: - Heat HLT to strike temp required to dough in at 55deg. - While that rests, refill HLT and heat to 65deg. Should be about 20 minutes to allow for a...

    Herms system.

Hi guys, have been working on redesigning my gear to go herms with pid control, upgrading from my single infusion setup. Have found this thread pretty interesting. I was looking at a very similar setup to the author of this thread, but as I do double batches, was going to use a 40ltr HLT and...
