    Sweetening Lemonade

Cheers guys. I'll give lactose a shot in a glass but I haven't heard good things about it. Also I have a mate who's lactose intolerant and...wait a minute, I sense a practical joke... Otherwise sweetening it in the glass might be the go, but I'd rather just pour a drink and drink it if you...

    Some Random Thoughts

ok then, easily solved. I kind of figured that the higher gravity brewing would reduce the efficiency but I didn't think it would be this much. I suppose in hindsight I would have needed about 10L of 1.1 SG wort to get 25L of good beer so perhaps a little more thought on my part would have...

    First Foray Into Ag Biab

I think I sense a caffinated beer on the horizon... Maybe you could call it "Father" <_<

    Sweetening Lemonade

I brewed a lemonade a while back, which basically consisted of lemon juice, zest, sugar and water. I let it ferment out (used US-05 from memory) however it is very dry. If I added one campden tablet to the keg (19L) and some sugar water, would this be an effective way to sweeten it? I assume...

    Some Random Thoughts

hmmm maybe Sir Isaac is the way to go...I never thought of that. I'm a bit apprehensive of mashing out as I use a gas burner (on the stove) and my 'bag' is actually a 1 x 1.5 m sheet of voile which hangs over the sides of the pot a bit and might get a bit close to the burner if I'm not careful...

    Some Random Thoughts

I pour the grain in in a couple of goes (usually because it won't all fit in one bowl) then stir the crap out of it to get rid of the dough balls. There's always a few that slip through the cracks but I wouldn't have thought it would make that much difference as I also stir it a lot when...

    Some Random Thoughts

I've done a few BIABs now, and just thought I'd share some random thoughts for comment... I've started using liquid yeast, and to make it last longer I split the yeast up. At the moment I split the yeast into about 5 sample jars, and store under refrigerated, boiled demin water. The rest goes...

    Tight Arse Stir Plate

Bam. That's a Wyeast 3068 on the plate for my first ever Weizen. Can't wait! That's a structural toilet roll holding the fan up. Don't use a Sorbent roll or you'll have issues with torsional rigidity. But seriously I didn't want screws poking out the top and it was the best thing I could...

    Bigw 19l Stockpot Handles

That's actually a pretty good idea. Cheers. Maybe a thick jumper as well so I can hold it close to my chest coz it's f'n heavy :)

    Bigw 19l Stockpot Handles

Has anyone had any issues with the handles on the cheap (~$20 I think) BigW stockpots. I get nervous if I have to lift the pot while it's hot and full of water/grain and am afraid they may come off one day. They don't look too strong. Sometimes I'll let the pot cool overnight on the stove but...

    Beer Made From Beer

Yeah you would have - just an extra filtration stage. Isn't that how they filter CD? :icon_vomit:

    Diy Computer-fan Stir-plate Build

Ok fair enough then. I was under the impression the low voltage charges were a bit useless. I'm not speaking from experience here as I haven't built one of these things yet, but I plan to as soon as I get back from site. I just found out a guy from work brews beer and he highly recommends...

    Diy Computer-fan Stir-plate Build

From memory I think that Nokia (or other phone chargers) are around 5V, give or take. They probably have pitiful output current as well. Keep in mind that at low voltage you need more current to supply the same power (power = volts x amps) so a 6 watt (just picking a number out of my head) fan...

    New To Kegging

Just on this, I only have a single reg and it's fine. Personally I don't think you need a dual pressure one (also I think they're about double the price too!). To each their own though... For force carbonating I just disconnect any kegs I'm serving from, wind up the reg to about 250-300 kPa and...

    Intermediate Stovetop Techniques

Awesome thread. I've only done 2 BIABS to date (second one still in the fermenter...) but will definately be giving this a go next. I'm anxious to add some extra steps to my brewing and perhaps "cross-over" to 3V at some later stage. Well done. Also kudos on the $30 thread, it was immensley...

Uncarbonated Head Retention Vs Carbonated Head Retention

It may also have something to do wih the size of the molecules in addition to their shape. I've heard about people butting N2 in their car tyres because it lasts longer (yes I'm also aware that air is ~70% N), and I think N2 is larger than the other major components of air (mainly O2), but I'm...

    Buying Kegs

I got the 4 for $240 deal from CB and also had one keg turn up that was different (slightly different lid, plastic gas dip tube) although it seems to hold pressure fine. They've still got the "receiving this is receiving stolen property" stickers on them which is great! Can't comment on any of...

    Apple Beer

I did a cider that turned out all right with some LDME. 15 L of Just Juice Apple 6 L of Jus Juice Apple and Pear (for a bit of sweetness) 200 g LDME Champagne yeast (can't remember the type but it was dried yeast. Liquid yeasts are on my to-do) It was the first cider I had made (2nd one with...
