    'battle Of The Toucans'

I just had a little taste of the Golden Harvest toucan and so far so good! I'm guessing about a week to 10 days at these temps... So now I'm going to do a similar brew but with three cans (a threcan?) of Mr Beer Classic Light American (I got them for fifty cents each). Mr Beer Classic American...

    No bubbling

I always thought hippies used a bit of old hessian or hemp cloth over the top.

    is this fermenting?

Get a hydrometer and test it. It looks finished anyway.

    No bubbling

I agree with Forever Wort, next time just use the o-ring to hold down some glad wrap over the top, prick a tiny hole in the glad wrap. Throw the air lock and lid away. Happy brewing!

    How to make a midstrength?

Here's what I do for a lazy youbeaut middy. 1 x darker ale type can, 1 x pale-ale type can (whatever you like), 1 x BE2, Steeped dark crystal, & 50L of H20. Yeast of choice. Voila! (Light) dark ale.

    English Bitter

Hmmm, not much airlock activity.... put your keyboards away i'm just kidding. I used the gladwrap method... thought i'd do a test sample to see how it's going, and it's on 1016 after three days at 20-22 degrees. Tasted the sample tube and it's going to be my best beer yet. I'll bottle it next...

    English Bitter

Got excited and put it down just now. English Bitter x 1 LDME x 2 Goldings Hops Crystal 200g S-04 I boiled about a litre or so of water and poured it over the crystal and let it sit for about 30 mins, then strained it through a tea towel, and let it simmer for about 30 mins with the hops...

    English Bitter

OK, I went to the LHBS, (very unhelpful there, not like here...), and I came home with: Safale s-04 Morgan's Finishing Hops (Goldings) Copper Tun cracked crystal grain Already had: Coopers LDME (from Big W $2.44 on special!) Coopers English Bitter (as above $9.95) Couldn't get any BE2, so...

Thanks for the great replies and advice guys! I'm going to the LHBS today to see what they have in terms of hops and crystal. You've all given me the encouragement to take the next step, thanks again.

How about 1kg Brewing sugar + 500g LDME then? If the IBU in the kit is high i might leave the fuggles hops out then. I've seen crystal in my LHBS, it's a grain of some kind right? what do i do with it? just put it in with the wort, or do i have to do something to it first? I hope this isn't...

    English Bitter

Hi guys. Just got a couple of cans of Coopers English Bitter on special ($10 @ big w). How does this sound for a recipe? 1 x Coopers English Bitter can, 1 x BE2, 1 x US04... simple as that.

How Do I Brew Tooheys New?

Hi Fasty A few months ago I made this, it was easy and it's turned out quite drinkable. You might like it too. Firstly, do you live near a homebrew shop? You need to get a better yeast than the ones with the kits. It's a little more expensive but you get better beer! 1 x Coopers Lager can 1 x...

Successful Attempts At Coles Or Homebrand Kits, Recipes...

Hi All Like everyone else I picked up a few cans on special at Coles to experiment with. Here's one I mixed up not three hours ago: "Ringwood Draught" 1 x Coles Draught BE1 1kg LDME 500g Pride of Ringwood US05 23L H20 IG 1048

    Cider Kit + Be1?

OK I'm raising the dead again (ie this topic). I just drank (drunk?) two bottles of this delicious apple flavoured nectar! Oh yes, it's nice. Simple, but good (think Strongbow). Very drinkable. Next time I'm gonna drop in some LDME or BE2 as well to give more body, not to improve it but to make...

    2 Week Lager

Hope you don't mind me raising the dead ..ie this topic.. that 'lager', (BE1 + US05) has turned out quite nicely. It's clean, very fresh tasting, good bead, little head tho'. Overall, I'm very happy with the results.

    2 Week Lager

Thanks Bum. I love the way you and others here are always ready and willing to give really sound advice! :) I'll tell you how I "aerate" my wort (Actually I didn't really know that you needed to). I put a few litres of H20 in the fermenter and then add the wort. Then I just let the tap go...

    2 Week Lager

I followed your advice Manticle, however there was no change in the reading after two days so I assume it's either finished or died out. Good idea though, so thanks. Hi Bum. Yes I do use PET and I decided to bottle this morning. The FG had moved slightly lower to 1014. I used two carb drops in...

Kit And Kilo With Cane *shudders* Sugar

Haven't made one with CSR sucrose for a long long time. But even those brews were better than buying a slab of CUB! (the satisfaction of DIY) Things are so much better nowadays don't you think with all the brew enhancers etc, ... it's hard to go wrong.

    An Off Vb

Yeah I don't think it would travel well, any more than a few meters and it's pretty well done for. Seriously though, I'm not a beer sob ( I'd rather drink something nice though) and I used to live in Vic a long time ago so I've had my share, but it's certainly nothing special. I can...
