    Flip Top Bottles

I have 3 dozen flip top, 1 doz no brand from the internet and 2 doz from my trusted Home Brew shop in Nth Sydney. 1 dud, no evidence of leaking, so I assumed user error. They are quite robust and a much easier way to bottle. Otherwise I use champagne bottle (both 750 and 375) with stopper and...

Thinking about a DIY wood fired oven-suggestions?

We bought a pre-cut kit. It uses fire bricks and tiles and 'refractory' mortar so can take over 600C. We heat to 500C or so for pizza, and then we have another 3 or so days of cooking with the residual heat (no more wood after day 1), the insulation for base and wrap before render is the key...

    Rare Aussie Beer

It was the tap beer at the my College (Canberra) in the late 70's, I was told it was brewed under license to the UK Courage. I remember that the last keg (1978-79) was set up as free beer to get people to go to a concert early, so we all went early, finished the keg in 20mins, and then went out...

Cooper English Bitter adding mashed grains

I do not know the detailed contents however: - Grain bag (soak 20min) - Bag Malt extract and ’bittering’ hops and bag contents at boil. - 2 x Staged additions of EKG, i think one had Irish Moss. - Morgans ‘Goldings’ teabag 3 days into ferment. It has a muddy dam water colour, and settled quite...

First brew - Coopers English bitter

Straight Sodium Percarbonate is what i use, seems to work fine, i am not sure what other commercial brands add though.

Cooper English Bitter adding mashed grains

Lots of good advice there, i will take note. I know that you did purchase the Coopers as a base, so I will give that a try (as well as the other input) BTW my local (Lower North Shore Sydney) home brew supplier does a cracking English Bitter kit that i love, however will try Coopers as a...

So, I bought a $20 fridge and put apple juice in it...

Noting that i responded to a post with a question. My response to that is: I used the Campden on the fresh crushed apples to control the outcome so only the Champagne fermentation. So no Wild Yeast fermentation. I will try a wild yeast if i can get my hands on some home grown/organic apples. I...

So, I bought a $20 fridge and put apple juice in it...

Good to know that ALDI Apple juice will ferment. I have done a fresh home juiced apples (+ campden), and Nudie Juice. Both very dry (as I used Champagne yeast). May I enquire - what yeast did you use?

    Rice Malt

I had a local Sydney brew that used rice mat extract. Nice and dry. Very clean. I would love to find an appropriate recipe. Do it seems a Pilsner can work. (Can we mention brands ie the beer i tried?) wil

    New brewer in QLD, Brissy

OH’ OK. As I said very new to this, an keep it simple. While I have never tried to brew before, i would rather not keep adding ‘sugar’. I have seen other posts referencing the use of ‘Champagne yeast’ (very dry outcome, I don’t recall a reference to added sugar). I have 2 weeks to see! Kind...
