    Whats In The Glass

Brown Porter. Getting a little vanilla coming through, with subtle chocolate/coffee flavours. Can't wait to have this with a hearty winter meal (Steak and Kidney... :icon_drool2: )

    intermittent pouring head

Slow down, use a few more words and a lot more punctuation! I've read through that a few times, and can't work out what you're saying. Can you explain in detail what the problem you're having is? (Beer is pouring differently every time? Pours with a thicker head the first time you pour a glass...

    Keg bulk buy

I've got all the South Sydney AEB kegs sitting in my garage at the moment, before being picked up and passed along further today. I must pass on my thanks once again to everyone involved in organising this: Dave, Maxim, Zwitter, and anyone else that may have been involved. They look like...

    Chilli! All Things Chillies.

Thanks anyway, but I'd rather grab something from Sydney, even if you could spare it. More likely to survive the journey. Still keeping my eyes peeled.

    Chilli! All Things Chillies.

I'd love to get my hands on some Rocotos. They sound like the sort of chilli I could use in everything every day. I got some seeds from Stienberg in September, but none of them germinated. He hasn't had much luck with them either.

    Experiment on sweetness of non-fermentables

I'm not convinced of the sweetening power of the lactose. I used quite a bit with no noticeable effect. Maybe it would show up in a head to head comparison, but without it, I can't taste the difference. I could always up the lactose, but I want to make ginger beer, not ginger milk.

Issues with gluten free beer - Briess Sorghum Extract.

How long has it been? 4-5 days? Mine took 3 weeks to go from OG 1.050 to FG 1.012 with US-05 at 18°C. Maybe wait a few more days to see if the SG drops a bit more? Finished about 3 points above est FG, so wasn't too bad.

    Erlenmeyer flasks

I spoon my LDME into a 500ml measuring jug and dissolve before pouring it into my conical, making up the final volume, and boiling.

Issues with gluten free beer - Briess Sorghum Extract.

You got away with 17g hops in that?? How was the taste? (Did the nelson flavour come through much? did it go well with the sorghum?) Mine was (20L batch, NC): 3.00kg sorghum 0.35kg maltodextrine (head retention and body) 0.10kg dark candi sugar (mainly for colour) 20g cascade (30 mins) 25g...

Issues with gluten free beer - Briess Sorghum Extract.

I recently made a GF APA for a mate - turned out surprisingly tasty with lots of late mosaic additions, masking a lot of the sorghum flavour. I read somewhere that the sorghum extract was low in minerals, etc, when compared to malt (but according to the above, this may be incorrect), so I added...

Looking for ball lock corny kegs

I'm pretty sure that The Brewshop at Peakhurst usually sell KK kegs (new or second hand). They currently only show up if you run a search for them on the website (giving them a call would get you the answers you require, though). The new HBS at Enmore (The Hop & Grain) may or may not sell kegs...

    PC temprature logging & control

Very true. I use PIC32s myself, so I can handle communications through a serial port (with a level translator) or by USB (which I have not tried yet, but most of my PICs have a USB module onboard). Much more fiddling around than arduino or RPi in designing circuitry, but that's just another...

So where will the Sydney pickup be? (And who is in charge of that?)

    PC temprature logging & control

If you're familiar with arduino, RaspPi, etc, you should be able to achieve everything you want with them (I am playing around with PIC32s, similar low-level system) regarding sensor measurements and recording. If you need that data on a PC, an Ethernet/serial/USB connection would take care of...

Woo Hoo - First AG BIAB Done!

My backyard has a decent slope to it, and several levels and retaining walls. I set my burner and BIAB vessel up on one of the levels we have above a 1m high retaining wall. That way, when I'm siphoning out my hot wort, I get about a 1.2m head start, without having to move anything at all. It...

Sydney New Kegerator gear (are you building a keg fridge), c02 bottles

Might be interested in a CO2 bottle and reg, if nothing else. A pair of disconnects too, if they're good quality. Getting my first couple of kegs from the bulk buy, but I'm not ready for a full setup yet (only really a party setup).
