    Banana Malt Bread

    Pre-mashed, not pre-malted.

    Banana Malt Bread

I was hoping for a little texture, a little sweetness, a bit of maltiness... I think that means I'm not entirely sure. I've never even made banana bread myself, so I have no idea how the base recipe comes out. I think after having a taste of this batch, I'll have a much better idea of where I...

    Banana Malt Bread

Ok, so I grabbed 250gm cracked Munich II from the LHBS to experiment with. Got my first attempt in the oven as I speak. I took a basic banana bread recipe (this one), reduced the brown sugar to 1/4 cup, and added 1/2 cup (~50 grams) cracked Munich II. Also removed the cinnamon on this occasion...

    Banana Malt Bread

Has anyone had a go at making Banana Malt bread? I had a bit of an epiphany while digging through a freezer full of frozen bananas, beer goodies and bread. There doesn't seem to be any mention of it here, and a google web search didn't turn up the sort of results I was looking for. What I was...

What to use for a first timer person to drink it.

It's easy to find a sticky topic. It's sticky for good reason! ;)

White Labs Yeast > Are Starters Required?

I've found the White Labs vials like to spurt everywhere too, particularly when you let them reach room temperature (prior to pitching into wort or starter). I've had some success by opening the vial while still cold before sealing it up again. Then, I relieve the pressure every now and then...

What to use for a first timer person to drink it.

A good lager is hard to get right without temperature control. And lager yeast. Lots of it. Also remember that honey is fermentable - when it's added to beer, you might not get the flavours you expect - it's the honey taste, after all the sweetness is removed. Good quality honey, I'm told, is...

What to use for a first timer person to drink it.

Generally, what I do when making a beer for (or to share with) someone, I find out what style of beer they enjoy. I know some of my friends really enjoy pale ales, and some enjoy porters. You can also find out what their favourite beers are, and try to find a clone recipe, or something with...

Sydney New Kegerator gear (are you building a keg fridge), c02 bottles

I don't think it's their competitors that have been complaining, it's more likely to be their resellers. I can see why they'd be upset.

Is it ok to join wires for nyc sensors?

I put a plug and socket on the temp probe for my STC, with no problems. As billygoat points out, a few ohms doesn't make a huge difference, but it depends on the rating of the probe and bias in-circuit. Use gold plated connectors if you're that worried. I didn't bother. I assume they're just NTC...

    Briess White Sorghum Syrup

I just buy it from The Brew Shop (my LHBS), but I'm pretty sure most home brew shops would stock it. It's not a vital ingredient, but it does provide a bit of colour to an otherwise very pale brew. 100g in ~20L took me from a very pale straw up to almost gold in colour - enough to make it look...

I've already bought my gear anyway. Couldn't wait too long :P Good luck with the rest of the buy.

Sugar in Gluten free sorghum wort, and yeast nutrient

My bad, I meant to say extract. Sorghum malt may well make very clear beer, but not all of us can make our own sorghum malt!

    Briess White Sorghum Syrup

Same stuff, just re-branded Briess. I recently made a corker of a gluten free beer. Standard APA. Throw lots of Mosaic hops at it late in the boil, and again for dry hop, and it masks/complements the sorghum nicely. If it looks a bit pale and cider-like for you, you can throw a bit of dark...

Sugar in Gluten free sorghum wort, and yeast nutrient

    1. I can't speak for the kits. I've never used a kit, but they do contain sugars (adding more sugar just gives you more sugar). Just as sorghum syrup contains sugars. I recently made a gluten free beer based on 3Kg sorghum syrup, but added 350g maltodextrin and 100g dark candi sugar. These are...

Ginger Beer Recipe - Scratch Brew No Kit

I know. That's why I was so keen to try it. And why I was so upset when it failed. That said, this was a GB with 75% ginger, 25% galangal. Maybe the two don't mix, and 100% galangal *might* be ok. Not hopeful, though.

Ginger Beer Recipe - Scratch Brew No Kit

I have. It ruined the batch. I usually don't mind a bit of galangal in Asian cooking, but keep it the hell away from my ginger beer. Just thinking about it has reminded me of the flavours of that ginger beer. I've still got a few bottles in the garage that I haven't tipped yet. I wonder if the...

First Marzen, looking for yeast feedback

I've not used WLP820, but I have used WLP838 (South German Lager), and was fantastic in a Vienna lager last year. Apparently, 820 can be quite slow to start, but is great once it gets going. From White Labs, 820 and 838 would both seem to be good candidates for a Marzen. Wyeast I'm not familiar...

Help needed - forgot flowers - ? What excuse?

Of course! Probably homebrew, though. On that note, dig up some random plant from the garden as a St. Anti-Commercialism present.

    Shire Brew Club

They're still around. I met one of the guys yesterday to hand over some kegs from the recent bulk buy. I'm not in the club, but I might hit them up some time in the future. Their [inactive] subforum is here: http://aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/65-southern-lager-ale-brewers/ Their Facebook group...
