Using The Hot Tap For Mash Water

you hit the nail on the head. instantaneous is ok but storage is a no no especially if it has a hardwater sacrificial anode in it... this is made out of aluminium and is designed to erode (ends up in the water) before you steel glass lined tank does. other anodes can be a combination of...

Cheap Conical Fermenters Now In Aus

152 bucks with six days bidding to go plus 30 bucks freight, i'd be looking at getting one made locally out of stainless, making the stand is not rocket science, rather spend the money on a flooded font :icon_drool2: . great idea but plastic.... think yeast will not settle out like a s/steel one...

First Lager... Big Change In Taste?

not much you can do to save it. for an aussie lager i would suggest using s189 and fermenting at 14-15 degrees. gives a nice clean taste and no diacetyl to worry about. ferment will be done in 2 weeks. batz has listed a great easy aussie style lager here (been drinkin it today) and if you want...

What Size Stirbar Should I Use?

hi bob, at the moment its a slow, very dull, f*&^$ boring process, only part of brewing i dislike, but if it does bugger up the yeast then i'd love to know. i'd love to use smash packs but weather up here is very warm and transport sometimes takes a couple of days in a hot van or truck , no...

What Size Stirbar Should I Use?

making a stir plate for rehydrating dry yeast and have a 500ml flask but not sure which stirbar to use. stir bars linky i will experiment with starters down the track, swirling a flask with yeast in it by hand is like watching wet paint dry and ties up my drinking hand.

what type of brew rig are you aiming for (biab 3v, etc)? might be worth looking at an electric urn if biab as it will pay for itself very quickly(way cheaper than gas, been there done that with keggles) but if 3v or other then ignore my curiosity  :icon_cheers:
